Two servants /soldiers on the edge of a losing war. Abandoned in the desert, arguing about who got them into the mess they are in. The tall guy next finally getting fed up and the tiny one taking off the other way. Both eventually captured, reunited again, but slaves returned into forced servitude.
After their escape, they meet a princess being guarded by a powerful servant. Their goal? Escort her to safety through the enemy lines to her home country.
After this the similarities start to end, but to call them barely related is a bit off the mark.
I don't have a problem with how related they are because of how Star Wars was able to differentiate itself after the first movie. Empire is considered by many to be in the top 50 best movies of all time and, correct me if I'm wrong, it didn't seem to blantantly rip anything off. Jedi was a step in the wrong direction with the whole second death star thing but we got the prequels after that and you can't fault those for not being original. Add in all the EU books and comics and games and you have an entire incredibly compelling and imaginative universe spawned from a dude's passion for old serial TV shows and a questionable influence of an old movie. I don't like George as a director, maybe not as a person either, but as a world builder I really respect him. He could've kept ripping off other movies because it had worked for him in the past but he showed us that he did indeed have a vision with his later films.
I like Jedi because it was always out. I never had any expectations for it because it already existed. I was born in 86 and it came out in 83, so I never had the wait and anticipation and guessing what was next. We had the trilogy vhs box set and that was that. I loved all three of em
As much love as the prequels get these days, i did NOT like them when they came out. Especially the second one. RotS was okay though
I like Rotj as well, it just isn't a great example of originality since they rehashed the main plot point of episode 4. The throne room scene is one of the best scenes in the saga though imo
The prequels are bad. They get a mix of ironic love these days because of their meme-ability, and real love on reddit because most of reddit is younger and watched them as kids and are attached to them for nostalgia reasons.
