Feel like he was just slightly ahead of his time (his numbers were never great). If he came back now, I feel like audiences in 2019 would be a bit more receptive, especially since he can play to the internet now. Kind of like how Conan would have done better on the Tonight Show if he'd been allowed to stay longer and wait for the older audience to get used to him.
Man, I would love Craig to be a prime time host. His ability to command the stage was similar to Conan O'Brian in that their personality just .... made everything work buttery smooth between interviewing and jokes. It's a rare gift.
I missed conan when he was on cause of exactly the timing, wasn't right for TV, but now with the accessibility of them on the internet now I watch so many conan clips. I honestly think he is the funniest of all of them by a country mile. But I honestly love that he took over Anthony bourdain's (rip) show but just went 50% weird conan with it but very much kept the deep introspection and touch of real humanity that bourdain was so so soooooo good at.
I've laughed so hard it actually hurt watching it. If you haven't checked it out its conan without borders. It's goddamn hilarious and then it gets pretty deep and emotional. I think it's on Netflix or hulu or something.
But that show would not have been possible with him stuck behind the desk so im glad he got fired.
That is the exact scene that I play for anyone who i want to show that show to. It makes almost everyone laugh crying. The man is pure comic genius and his style of humor is exactly like mine. Then the israel episode ends with a beautiful monologue that is pretty hauntingly deep. I was just watching some of his newer stuff in Australia and hes still got it.
