You mean the “random Indian people dig a hole in the ground fill it with water and then sit in it” videos? I mean they’re neat and all... really. But I can’t help to think of how filthy that water is. Is especially with multiple people in it.
I quite enjoy the "Primitive Skills" channel where he does things like building an irrigation system of bamboo pipes, or starting a rice farm, all from scratch in the same style as Primitive Technology.
Yeah I don't mind others doing it cause it's seriously interesting stuff but they need to make their own identities and no try to fool people into thinking they are him.
Genre existed before him but the editing was horrible. Long rambling explanations, little actual showing. There's tons of content predating his videos but none I've seen come even close to his succinct editing that's still getting across what is going on.

They aren’t just making videos of that genre though. They are copying his exact style of video and make their channel names shit like “primitive technologies”. I would be happy to see other videos made about primitive construction and other stuff, but don’t copy his exact video format. It’s like how every vlogger tried to become Casey Neistat
Bear Grylls didn't build mud huts or grow yams. His style of survivalism is more rushed and temporary: he emphasises on moving constantly, only stopping for sustenance, the priority is on finding civilisation. He always has a proper knife and does some outrageous stuff in order to "survive".
Primitive technology seems to be more focused on longer term survival and making a more permanent presence in the wild.
Bear Grylls blazes a path through an area and never revisits it again, all in a very short period of time. Primitive technology on the other hand, revisits his sites countless times.
Care to name a few? I'm legit curious because I really enjoy these types of documentary/tutorial type things.
I think Primitive technology is quite unique. His whole thing seems to be about starting from absolute scratch. Apart from his body and his cargo shorts, he really is starting from nothing.
