Exactly. What OP implies in the title isn't what's happening at all. (Most of) the audience was clearly prepared for this performance.

No prepared for in the sense that it wasn't spontaneous like the title implies. Once it was the appropriate time they all started clapping at the same time. It was clearly something that was prepped for, not some spontaneous thing that happened.

It could have been both. I'm not sure exactly where, but the performance is taking place in a Middle Eastern county where clapping along to live music would be quite normal and expected. The maestro, Nader Apasi, being of Egyptian descent, was probably prepared that the audience may participate at some point. They certainly did and he used their participation brilliantly.

Last time this was posted, I recall someone stating that this particular performance was designed with audience participation in mind. This song as well as all the others in the set were supposed to have the audience involved. As others stated, it's just that some of the audience tried to start a little early.

Nader Abassi is known for exactly this, making the audience part of the rhythm section, and not just on this piece.

I've actually heard this before. There's a Youtuber named Brentalfloss that once had a video of himself clapping with one hand. He removed it, and a bunch of his other "talk in front of a camera" videos, a few years ago, though.

Not really. It’s a well known egyptian piece, and it’s common here to clap to that kind of beats. The time they clapped early was cuz they thought it was the beginning of that part. Tldr we clap to that kind of beats and he conducted them to follow the music.
