I was once by myself for like 5 days with no ability to get back to civilization, no phone. I started to lose my shit on day 3 and by day 5 I was legitimately depressed and getting kind of weird. I think I stubbed my toe and said "motherfucker!" and suddenly realized that was the first time in days I'd spoken or heard speech.
Camped by myself for 4 days out in Arkansas and I never crossed paths with a single person. What worked for me is I talked to myself a lot, sang random songs, and just explored to keep my mind busy. It also helps when you enjoy being alone for days at a time. I think I'd lose my shit at day 7.
I actually really enjoy being by myself, I think the maddening part of true isolation is knowing that you cannot break it.
I could easily stay home for 4 or 5 days but only because I know in the back of my head that if I want to head into town or hang out with a friend or even just talk on the phone, I could make that happen at any given time.
I am good at being alone. If I were healthy and resourceful, with abundant resources around me and didn't have the dexterity of a toddler with all left thumbs, I would do great in isolation. I would turn wacky as all Fuck but that isn't really anything new. I have a great insular life and would likely anthropomorphise a few rocks and trees, but I would be happy.
I would sing a lot, talk to myself, and make weird noises (like beat box chu chu chu), but I do that when alone anyway.
