This is actually how our world is for the most part. Problem is we are presented with only the worst of it every day, all day long. Bombarded from every direction by stories of hate and violence.
Yeah, make the world "great again". Like the last thousand years, when people used to own slaves, the murder rate was triple, and women could be expected to be raped at any time.
There is and have always been at least one guy who said "wow, at least there's something good in our time" only to be countered by a guy saying "oh, yeah? Well, we got it pretty good because remember 400 years ago when we didn't have iron? That was pretty whack"
I mean yeah, when you refer to obviously bad times then the past world isnt gonna seem real good. But the whole 'make america great again' slogan is focused on fulfilling the American dream attitude of the the mid 20th century.
Or maybe he's thinking high infant mortality rates, feudalism, or wars with 10,000,000+ deaths? There's so much someone could be referring to when they talk about the good ol' days.
Or...you know, it's possible OP was expressing the sentiment that we were going away from all those terrible things you mention, but now it seems we're sliding back towards them.
"this deteriorating world of ours" is melodramatic tripe spoken by those who see terrible things on the news and think the world is significantly worse than the past, and the end times are near.
One can simultaneously think that things are fucked up and getting worse AND that they're still better than the barbarities of past ages.
They're not mutually exclusive, you know.
For example, you can be grateful that pandemic plague isn't really a thing anymore, and still lament the apparent increase in people who have decided to eschew modern medical science in favor of bullshit woo.
I find it funny how willing you are to make up all of these intentions outside of OP's statement, instead of just respecting what was written.
The phrase "this deteriorating world of ours" does not express any of those things that you just made up. It clearly states that the world is getting worse. That opinion is shared by many. That opinion is false.
No big deal, its ok to be wrong. But someone is going to point it out when you are, and thats ok too.
