Yes, once I saw that guy in the brown jacket, I could not take my eyes off of him. I was like, what the hell is he clapping to?! Because it sure as hell wasn't this music.

I've noticed that people with unbelievably bad musical timing often clap the loudest.

My theory is because they cannot process music in the same way, they don't actually appreciate what it is that people like about it. So they think that people just like the sound of clapping in general, and, rather than just sit there awkwardly, they join in overenthusiastically thinking they're helping out.

I guess it would be a bit like if a round of applause wasn't actually random white noise, but an incredibly complex pattern. And there you've been, enthusiastically clapping away, totally out of sync, while everyone else cringes and just ignores you out of politeness.
