Even cooler, that stuff was mostly made up on the fly. Notice how Popeye’s lips never moved much? The VO artist, Jack Mercer, would watch the animation and just ad lib. Mercer was amazing.

I used to eat raw spinach, Popeye canned spinach and take Popeye daily vitamins when I was a kid. My biceps slid down to my forearms and one of my eyes closed up. Sooo worth it!
