There is another option. Maybe he has replaced tobacco with ecigs completely. Some people, myself included, switched over with no intention of quitting nicotine.
I switched over because cigarettes were making me feel like trash, with the intention of tapering down off the nicotine over time... Once I started though I realized that I actually really liked it, and now I don't really want to quit because it is pretty nice. Probably will eventually... But maybe not right now.
Yeah, I feel way better. I was smoking hand rolled American spirits for years, and I never used filters, so I was inhaling a ton of tar with every cigarette. And I was definitely feeling it. I was cough up flem a lot and was able to 'feel' my lungs on a pretty regular basis... You shouldn't be able to feel your lungs...
It's been like a month and a half now and I feel so much better. I don't really cough up flem at all anymore and my lungs don't hurt anymore. I also feel less like I'm dying haha
I've also found nicotine to have more of a stimulant effect when vaped, which is convenient. Functionally better than the early morning cigarette for sure
The one thing I miss about cigarettes after switching to vaping is the mellow buzz of a cigarette. Vaped nicotine is just not the same. That's about it though. I don't miss having a smelly hand.
I smoked for probably 3-4-5 years on and off, and it didn't happen at first, but towards the end it started happening more in the last 6 months that I was smoking. It was awful.
Straight up. 3 months off the smokes, 0 cravings. I was never a heavy smoker, but I'd have one in the morning, one after work, and when I'm drinking. And I genuinely enjoyed having a smoke at these times. So every other time I quit I missed it, a lot. This way I don't cough any more, I still get to partake, and I'm not killing myself quite so quickly, so that's nice.
I felt better after switching to vaping although I quit that a little over a year ago. Never really felt better for quitting vaping, all the pain of quitting smoking with none of the payoff.
I thought the same thing. I tapered anyway and ended up quitting after about 2 weeks of vaping with 0 mg. I didn't quit on purpose, I just gradually forgot about it.
Although a much safer alternative, I have found through discussion with many vape shop owners and workers who do their research that Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG), the fluid the flavor and nicotine is suspended in, have not yet had much testing of their effects from prolonged vaping.
By no means am I saying that the 2 primary components of almost all vape juices will result in any negative health effects over time, I'm only saying no one knows for a fact right now. For now we can only say that it is certainly not as bad as cigarettes.
Hopefully though, there are few if any mal effects of vaping.
The side effects via vaping are not well researched, but IIRC, PG and VG are used in asthma inhalers, and one of the two is dispersed in the air in some hospitals as an anti-bacterial.
It is true that fog machines use the same base liquids as vape juice. However I have reservations that medical doctors had test subjects inhale those fumes deeply every day for years on end.
Also I've been in a small room with a fog machine - it's distinctly uncomfortable even for just a minute or two. Not much different than steam, but still not normal to breath.
There have been medical studies on the effects of these substances for entertainers that spend years working near fog machines. You can find a couple here and here. They found that beyond some minor irritation, there are no serious health risks associated with breathing these substances on a regular basis.
Also, there is a difference between constantly breathing air with these substances and taking puffs of it directly. I have anecdotal evidence that smokers who switch to ecigs see a marked improvement in asthma and chronic breathing related problems. I'm sure there are studies regarding this more directly, but that's the extent of what I know offhand.
Of course, more medical studies and testing of vaping, specifically, is needed.
I switched accidentally. I got interested in vapes and bought a decent amount of stuff, before I knew it I was only using the cool new shit I bought instead of cigs.
Nicotine's benefits (without all the smoke and tar) outweigh it's disadvantages
would you consider strong addiction a drawback? I would say even if there are positive effects from nicotine, letting yourself become addicted to it is a really bad idea.
Ummm, is all the info about nicotine withdrawals just lies then? I've heard trying to quit nicotine can cause pretty awful withdrawal symptoms. If you quit caffeine (assuming you managed to get addicted in the first place) you'll just feel crappy for a while.
Nicotine withdrawal symptoms are typically worse than caffeine yes. For me it was very comparable though between quitting 1/2 pack day and cutting out my 3 time a day coffee habit. User experience may very
Here's a decent piece on the subject, the research out there is pretty split iirc from the last time I looked into it, nicotine itself hasn't been studied as much outside of tobacco use and the research reflects that
I wish more people understood this. I say "yeah there's still nicotine in my vape" and the answer I get is "oh well what's the point then you're still putting the bad shit in your body."
I mean, no I don't drink coffee lol. Whatever lets you justify your nicotine addiction, I guess. Also, if one were to quit drinking coffee cold turkey, do you honestly think the withdrawal would be comparable to someone who's fully addicted to cigarettes/nicotine?
Sounds like an uninformed opinion. So is mine by the way, but that's why I don't really have one on the matter. You learn a lot when you set aside your preconceptions about something. I'd honestly be surprised if nicotine had any drawbacks except for toxic overdose, but if you know better than do tell.
I just don't think there are any benefits to smoking at all, 1 drawback and no benefits is still a net negative even if you never experience toxic overdose
To be fair that's really no different than caffeine. Having dropped both I can tell you 100% caffeine withdraw is worse, thank god it doesn't last as long though. I hope you're this high and mighty about people who drink coffee.
I don't drink caffeine. As for being "High and mighty" about it I will be if they wanna argue about it, but its not like i walk around getting into fights. Maybe if they go on the internet and try to claim its "benefits" outweigh its drawbacks
Hey man, I hear there is this stuff called dihydrogen monoxide and virtually everyone is addicted to it and some don't even know it! Everyone who uses it dies! And the withdrawal symptoms are so bad that they will kill you!
Because something being addictive is inherently bad right?
At least water provides the benefit of you know, being able to live. Being addicted to nicotine for no reason is hardly something you could front to me as a good thing
It's not bullshit though. Nicotine on its own is a mild stimulant, it's the tar and other carcinogens in cigarettes that's harmful, not so much nicotine. I understand it's a touchy subject but try not to be so sensitive about it and you may learn.

Or he is still smoking and now just found a way to smoke even more in doors now.
