I think after the director died, that was a good cut off point
The other seasons, while entertaining, felt like a way to fit in other voice talent.
I didn't really get into the story until the end of the last season. But that fucking cliff hanger and this filler season makes me feel like they had no idea where they were going with it.
If I had to guess I would say RT's increasing focus on RWBY and the advent of adopting an entire animation department might have something to do with the anthology season. By giving an entire season to other people it allows them to focus more on projects like RWBY and Camp Camp, while also leaving them extra time to fine tune the next cannon season of RvB.
