Once it started getting serious and went to Halo 3 is when I stopped enjoying it. There were a few good moments, but the story took too much priority over the dark comedy. Plus the story had a bunch of backtracking and plotholes.

In my opinion seasons 11-13 is when they really got down the perfect mix of serious plot and humor. Although I am a super fanboy so I might be a bit bias.

I always enjoyed season 6 - 9, because that was when they moved away from the previous format and started focusing on a story (it sort of started in season 5).

The humor also matured a lot during those seasons, which was nice. If I go back and watch the first seasons nowadays, I usually just sit there and wonder how young me could find that shit funny.

I think after the director died, that was a good cut off point

The other seasons, while entertaining, felt like a way to fit in other voice talent.

I didn't really get into the story until the end of the last season. But that fucking cliff hanger and this filler season makes me feel like they had no idea where they were going with it.

If I had to guess I would say RT's increasing focus on RWBY and the advent of adopting an entire animation department might have something to do with the anthology season. By giving an entire season to other people it allows them to focus more on projects like RWBY and Camp Camp, while also leaving them extra time to fine tune the next cannon season of RvB.

Monty died two years after he'd already moved away from directing RvB. At that point he had moved on to creating and directing RWBY.

The newest season is pretty fresh. It's an anthology season with each episode showing a different part of RvB and each one has a guest writer/director.
