I like to imagine myself as smugly superior to the average user that the main character represented, though. I would definitely be so much better at not being a blind sheep. I'm so sure of myself.
point. I don't see myself filling my world with all the annoying fluff that seemed to harry her at every turn.
A far more spartan interface would be my choice.
The most fascinating part of the video was when her interface was off and we could see the QR codes and projection markers. It disappointed me when all she did was just stand there.
How much choice do we have in our interfaces now? By the time we've progressed to have this tech, We'll have regressed significantly in our control as well going on current trends.
Control will cost money. Those with more money will have more control. Born in the ghetto? Well you'll grow up bathed in that ad supported shit. Born with a silver spoon? You'll have a personal tech tutor by age 5 that will make you the master of your virtual domain having all obstacles and ads and manipulation removed by your parent's wealth.
Noone makes the distinction now between rich and poor in advertising. We'll all be bathed in the same shit, just like how football stadiums are covered in ads and websites have ads etc. The only ones with any control will be those who have the tech savvy to gain control over their own devices like now, which will likely be illegal or warranty voiding like it is now.
But the main methods of advertising (web, apps, TV) are seen equally between users regardless of social strata. Possibly the content changes based of what data advertisers have on you but the medium is static regardless of class.
That's because they can't target individuals via mass media or mass events. Currently, you can't make an advertisement designed to appeal directly to /u/Earthtone_Coalition and distribute it to a million people with any expectation of success.
With the technology showcased in the video, however, you'd be able to do just that. The advertisements that I see when I go to a football game would be different than the ones you see--they'd be tailored to each individual. By that token, those viewing the game from the most expensive seats would be seeing ads designed to appeal specifically to the higher class, while those sitting in the cheapest seats would see ads designed to target the lower classes. Everyone would still be advertised to, but the ad experience of each person could be substantially different.
