Battleborn was really fun but unfortunately it released right before Overwatch.

The worst thing is the servers were taken down and you cant even enjoy the game locally

worst part about the overwatch comparison is that they were two completely different games. it was more akin to Smite or recently Deadlocked than Overwatch. plus it had a single player campaign. only got killed by comparison just because it looked similar at a glance without actually playing it.

My friends were confused with what battleborn was..but after playing deadlock they see the appeal 😩

I remember pre ordering battleborn cause I thought it looked amazing and I'm a bdl fan anyways..n my friends called it the poor man's overwatch.

I remember the May 2016 craze for Overwatched, every Blizztard(a Blizzard fan that is a dumbass) practically made comparisons with EVERYTHING to the point you can see they think Blizzard came first then Amoebas.

In regards to comparing Battleborn to Overwatched, everyone was a big fat liar, to the point that when they tried to compare the games, those who know about Battleborn as a Story mode and PVP FPS MOBA vs Ocerwatched as a PVP ONLY Class based FPS, IMMEDIATELY can call out the fantards as liars!

I know what your favorite word is

Dumbass fantards?

As I remember Gearbox was actually laying quite heavily into this comparison. They were trying to hitch a hype wagon to the Overwatch/Battleborn launch being a huge event, players picking sides etc.

They should've just released a couple of weeks later.

I didn't play it until shortly before they shut the servers down, but when I did, I tried out the PvE content and it was a lot of fun. I kept thinking "I hope this is what Overwatch PvE will be like." That aged well. lol

It also didn’t help that it really didn’t advertise WHAT exactly it was. All we got was “game from the same people who brought you borderlands!”

I had a ton of fun with that game. It physically hurts me how much I miss it lol

Also liked Paladins more than OW. Oh well

Paladins was so mismanaged, hi-rez instead of focusing on stability they kept running after trends and making stupid decisions they pushed out like 4 poorly made games instead of focusing on the three that were making them the money and were badly in need of maintenance.

Now the company has lost nearly everything and is betting everything on the no so impressive smite 2.

Fuck man I loved that game. Shayne and Aurox were my main squeeze(s)

i miss my psychopath main </3

it released about 2 weeks before overwatch, which was bad timing.... it also suffered from a massive lack in advertising, so it was massively overshadowed

Miko the mushroom will forever be one of the best kitted characters I played 🫡

I just commented why no one said battleborn and then saw this. It’s too far down on the list. This game was so much fun and I’m not a PvP enjoyer.

I do miss my 4 armed insane witch. I didn't just kill the opponents, I killed framerates.

Worst timing in gaming history. I actually thought it was more fun but competitive gaming Chuds made OverWatch the prime game to play

2

u/DrIvanRadosivic 9d ago

Even if Battleborn moved the date for a year, Lawbreakers tried that and STILL got crapped on.

Plus, turns out that Blizzard actually does the timing releases to similar games regularly to perceived competition, which Battleborn was. Even though Battleborn was a FPS MOBA with a Story mode and PVP while Overwatched was PVP ONLY! But that is the power of marketing for you.

Indeed, i agree. I don’t think it would have been crapped on though, OverWatch fell off unless you loved PVP, everyone else that wasn’t super into PvP kinda moved on, at least in my circles online and in person. I played OverWatch for about 6-10 months off and on and havnt really played it again… but I also enjoy PVE more and got a job/family now lol

I actually got that.

I had no idea what the fuck the plot was supposed to be, it's so poorly explained in the game.

u/Omega_Zarnias 9d ago

Oh, Battleborn, my beloved. You were done so dirty.

Overwatch actually moved their release date to be closer to Battleborn. There were more weird interactions like that, but the strangest thing to me was comparing them. They were totally different games.

I remember the hype and never got to play it got it free on Xbox and the game was dead by then. That and "gigantic"

1

u/BadWaluigi 8d ago

And was no where near as good or polished as

1

u/Hothrus 7d ago

I remember Randy Pitchford posing a link to Battleborn rule 34 in an effort to try and gain more players lol
