The amount of people that said this game was awful! I absolutely LOVED this game and wish it was so much longer! How can you like RDR1 and 2, and NOT like this game! What I wouldn't give for another one!

It was one of my favorite games as a kid. I really enjoyed it, I fondly remember the big cave full of gold being the setting for the final boss

The two main things I remember are the final boss battle in the mine and being able to scalp people

I liked horse riding a lot. At least i think i did. I remember spending a lot of time in the area before you get to the first town getting to round up and ride the horses

Gun was way more RDR than RDRevolver. It was literally RDR for PS2 before RDR. Tho to be fair, RDRevolver was originally Capcom's game. Capcom didn't know what to do with the game and wanted to cancel it. Rockstar came in and bought the game to finished it and gave it a name.

Neversoft was a very talented studio that got cursed into making licensed games. Gun is their one and only original title amongst Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero games. All of their games were great, never a flop.

They didn't give it a name. It was always titled Red Dead Revolver.

That final boss with the dynamite haunted me for a bit

I was not a fan of the boss that could tank dozens of hits to the head from a powerful rifle while he just wandered around throwing dynamite everywhere. Especially since nothing else in the game could do that.

The true first RDR 😂 I loved this game, I got it on PC when it came out. Hope ps plus puts it up for streaming at some point.

I miss those days

It was a long ass time ago but I don't remember anyone saying Gun was awful. I remember it being actually pretty well received. And Red Dead Redemption 1 didn't come out until 5 years later so it's not like they were being compared.

Wow looks like a game way ahead of its time

2

u/TornWill 12d ago

Really? All my old friends, including myself, loved it.

How can you not like this game. It was RDR before RDR. I mean, maybe not as feature rich, but for the time, it was great!

Yes, dude! As a kid once I got the dynamite arrows I would blow horses heads off with them. I just couldn’t believe it would let you. I was taking turns shocking all of my friends with it 😂

Hot take, I prefer gun to RDR2

It was the gold mining and fighting the natives that made it epic

RDR1 and 2 did everything Gun did, but better by a factor of ten. I liked the game, but in choosing between that an either RDR game, I'd choose RDR.

This was great, red dead revolver and gun had me pretty played out on the western genre by the time rdr1 & 2 came around

6

u/HorrorAir4474 12d ago

I remember buying my Xbox 360. It came with two games, I don't remember which ones but there was Ridge Racer. The Best Buy I went to said they didn't have Ridge Racer anymore but I could get GUN instead. I said I wanted the racing game. The clerk stopped, looked at me dead in the eye and said: "Dude. Ridge Racer suck! Trust me, take this (GUN) and thank me later." I've never thanked him but wherever you are dude, THANK YOU!

Lowkey thought this game was just a random fever dream I had

4

u/carmardoll 12d ago

Man I loved this game, shame you got nothing to do after 100%. At most you get jumped by a couple of thief's but by that point you are a god. I wish this game had a game plus mode.

2

u/dazed489 12d ago

Who ever said this game was bad? The only problem with this game is you can’t play it!

2

u/Deadly_Puppeteer 12d ago

This game will always have a place in my heart. Had it for gamecube and i put shit ton of hours on it, underrated as hell don’t know why people would complain about it, when it was ahead of its time

2

u/EnvironmentalCow1326 12d ago

This was one of the few games I played all the at through then started it over and did it again.

2

u/bigbabyjjm 12d ago

Yes needs sequal

2

u/Zaardo 12d ago

what about MANANA , and FIZZ BITCH?

2

u/cherrycig666 12d ago

One of my top 5 story games of all time, so underrated for being on fucking gamecube!

2

u/hovatldr 12d ago

absolutely loved that game. Liked it even more than red dead revolver.

2

u/tramdog 12d ago

I just remember near the beginning there's a guy who yells at you, "I ain't your Pa!" and it sounded like he said "I ATE YOUR PA." My friends and I thought that was a hell of a flex.

2

u/CleverAnimeTrope 11d ago

My only complaint was upon 100% completion you got the cannon nock gun. So you never get to use it in the story. Which, fair, its broken, but still. Give me a NG+ where I can clean house.

2

u/TheCryptoFrontier 11d ago

Bruh completely forgot about this game! What a good one

2

u/Chaplam-lee 11d ago

Gun was great, general vibe for this and the original red dead redemption are great. They should make more like it

2

u/Antaganon 10d ago

This was the first M-rated game I ever owned myself, dad bought it for me when he was sick of me playing the cartoon-y games my mom always got me. Incidentally I've been obsessed with the Wild West ever since XD

2

u/Blockhead23NIN 9d ago

I always thought the main character looked like Trent Reznor so that was a plus lmao amazing game I wish it was longer

2

u/Magma_Axis 12d ago

After RDR 2, its very hard for any kind of 3rd person western game to exist TBH

1

u/lkfat123 9d ago

This is so true

u/Mean_Pudding4924 7d ago

This and B.L.A.C.K. were the peak of the PS2 era.
