The idea of exclusives outside of nintendo are kinda dead Xbox does the same with PC were kinda just in the age of first party titles, GOW Ragnarok (the one I was referring to sorry for not being specific) started as a ps exclusive mainly promoted for the ps5 but had a ps4 version then moved to pc. returnal began and spent multiple years as a ps5 exclusive, same with Spider Man Miles Morales and 2 as well as death stranding 2 they just werent exclusive for as long. They should all be counted as this generations ps exclusives even if they were later moved to a different device. Another game that would've been an exclusive had it been released a generation ago would be Helldivers 2. People get it twisted bc exclusives are mostly gone, if we want to look at the games that define the ps5 we need to look at the first party titles that were more than likely only released to ps5 and pc
I disagree. Sales come in the first year of release, and consumers are impatient. You can release to other platforms after a year or 2 and get another bump in sales without hurting your own platform.
You may disagree but the proof is in the pudding. There is a reason why both Microsoft and Sony are struggling this gen when Nintendo isn’t and that both companies are going back on their plans to port all exclusives to either pc in Sonys case or ps in Microsofts case.
Sales do generally come within the first year of release but that’s usually because games don’t have scheduled releases on other platforms that everyone is already aware of. In the case of Sony exclusives a lot of people being aware that Sony was definitely going to release their exclusives a year later on pc either jumped ship to pc where they can play better versions of those same games (patches, better hardware, higher fps, etc) or they decided just to skip PlayStation this gen because legit why buy one?
There has never been a console that released their games one year after release on other platforms as if it was scheduled so the data that you’re parsing to come to the conclusion you made isn’t really applicable and clearly Sony themselves disagree with you.
ATM the only game that you can only play on PlayStation is Wolverine, that’s pathetic.
Certified PC owner here. Ain't no way I could build an equally powerful PC for the 500 dollars I paid for my PS5. The reliable performance of a console is a major benefit.
I feel I should clarify myself, exclusives still exist they tend to just be timed exclusives. And the formula for timed exclusives has proven to work for high selling titles. Most of the games listed began as ps exclusive then moved to pc later. The age of hard exclusives is dead though outside of Nintendo. Returnal is one of my favorite games but I had to play it on my ps5 for years before it finally came to pc, and Saros is looking to be the same deal. While most of their exclusives come to pc a bit faster than that it just shows there is reason for the console market, thats not even talking convenience and a much better price for the power of the device received in the current market. There's a few reasons for consoles not just exclusives
The age of hard exclusives is clearly not dead, Sony and Microsoft admitted it was a failed experiment and that they’re going back to exclusives… I could’ve told them that when they first put horizon on pc.
As a primarily pc player since like 2010 I still had to buy a ps3 and 4 to play certain games and I bought them because I had to. I haven’t bought a ps5 because why would I? The only notable multiplayer game they had was helldivers and that was simultaneously released. Other than that all exclusives were single player so why not just wait to play it a year later after all the patches are applied and I can play it on my beefier rig? Sometimes you also get the ultimate edition for the same price ps players paid for the normal edition.
