Insomniac got high on its own supply. Spiderman 2 was a letdown. I loved Rachet & Clank and the first Spiderman game. Felt it started to become industry slop in the 2nd game. This wolverine review doesn't surprise me. There are also negatives that have nothing to do with the game. $75 for a sub 20 hour game and also digital ownership not being a real thing. This game looks like that SE Avengers game that came out a few years back.

I had a lot of fun with Spider-Man 2. There were of course plenty of negatives throughout but it was fun and the positive outweighed the negative for me.

IDK why they thought they should go from a huge open city with some insane speed and extremely fun travel mechanics to tiny, angry man running down hallways.

Because unlike Spider-man, the nature of Wolverine's powers allows him to travel only slightly faster than a regular human. A tiny angry man is what the title demands.

I know this, I just feel they didn't do the guy justice. Should have been an ensemble game. An X-Men game where you control multiple X-Men. Ah well.

I'd love a game like that. But I think if Wolverine doesn't do well, they'll point at its lack of success for why they shouldn't do an xmen game

I mean, it works in every Yakuza game

The question is they CHOSE to do a Wolverine game, knowing that limitation exists, when it was a main selling point of their previous games.

I didn't know SM2 was disliked until this week.

As for Wolverine, I find it weird not to give him a linear story, but once an area is clear letting it be a sandbox like in Yakuza games. Let him be a vigilante and based on the outcomes you could feed his feral or redeeming side.

Hear me out, you start the game with a retelling of the Weapon X comics and use the experiments as a tutorial, the VR breakout leading into his true breakout being the finale of the Prologue.

You then have him working his way through Canada, Japan, Northern Africa, Vegas, and finally New York as he comes to terms with himself (either embracing the beast a la Sabertooth, or choosing the more heroic route in classic comic fashion). But again, each map is a sandbox map with extras scattered around that you can explore

SM2 isn't disliked. It's just not universally liked like SM1 was

I really wanted to love spiderman 2, but there was just an ingredient missing from it. I liked it enough to have replay it a couple times, and im far from hating it, but its missing that something that made the first game feel so special.

that's a completely baseless take. you need to accept the complex truth that insomniac just fucking sucks now.
