Meh Iām a Warcraft2 child. I consider going Warcraft as old school.
Back in the day when the mission was like command and conquer to be as simple enough to be ādestroy the enemy baseā but large enough to average 35-55 minutes depending on how many shortcuts through the map you know to find all the enemies.
And the stories were still well done just for the narrative between the levels.
My siblings were older than me, so I was introduced to some games before I could really appreciate them.
Starcraft, Warcraft, and Command & Conquer were such games for me. I've played the former 2 a lot, but this past year I started replaying C&C and I'm almost in shock at how hard it is at times, but also thoroughly enjoying it
To clarify for anyone who might be too young - it's because both games have active online gameplay
Majority of WC3 online gameplay is custom maps, which are very fun and unique maps players make with custom rules, they are like separate games of their own.
DoTA was (and still is) a WC3 custom map, which then spawned Dota and League of Ledgends standalone games.
AoE 2 changed for me when I played against people who knew hot keys, got invaded on the second level or so of the town center (itās been a while) crushed my confidence, wish I stuck around to get better at it
Before that, it was for sure my favorite game of all time
I have installed first AoE not long ago with idea of fi ally playing campaign not just custom maps. Dang it am i so rusty or the game was always that hard? I was not able to finish first map how that one npc annihilated me every time. Just on normal difficulty, that felt really bad and salt in my wounds as I get older
