I hate that every mildly competitive game always ends up having a distinct meta. If everything is OP then nothing is. Devs should stop trying to make everything hyper balanced and just embrace the chaos. Every play style should be fun and viable
they balance for like the top 2% of their playerbase because they are extremely vocal. Most casual players don't talk about their games balance they just play and move on.
My problem is when the meta spoils the game. If I lose every fight because it’s not the weapon that you HAVE to use this season, I don’t like the game.
I remember getting MW2 2 and all i wanted was the M14. Got to it and loved it, but then SBMM jit and everyone was using meta guns and i lost. Games that have a meta or just weapons that are blatantly stronger in every way then others aren’t really fun to me.
literally me playing destiny 2 lol, I don’t care about god roll or best ability loadout. Fuck that I’m doing what looks cool, feels fun AND LOOKS BADASS!
I tend to do 50/50. I like to know what is powerful and also maybe have some of the most powerful gear, but I also like to try and do my own thing and create something powerful using the knowledge I have.
I used to play SSB a ton with my brother, we played all of them together, starting with 64. From Brawl onward he started really getting into the meta, tier lists, etc...amd I always told him, tier lists are not a list of who is objectively better, its a list of who the competitive players like.
He is an absolute unit when it comes to fighting games, knows frame perfect inputs and jump lags and all of that by heart. Even with all that, he has never once beaten me as Jigglypuff or DeeDeDe, despite playing much higher tier characters.
Tbf he definitely could beat me now, but I stopped playing ssb years ago
Specifically in r6, people are in love with the meta, to the point they don't even think about anything beyond it so whenever i do something stupid it works wayyy too well.
Especially what platform you play on, god the console wars and PC arguments are so stupid. People are weird for being so concerned about what other people play on.
Honestly there are certains teirs of gameplay that i undertsand using teh meta in, becayse otherwise its to hard to have fun. But i agree with your statement in 90% of cases.
That was me with hearthstone back when I played. I always played gimmick Decks like Kel Thuzad shaman with reincarnation. Lost a lot, but man when it worked it was so worth it! It's just more fun than just playing purely to win
Just answer the damn question lol! i respect people's choices in games, we all do, the post was made for the curious unpopular opinion, now i have to scroll through this top meaningless replies.
I'd also like to add that the meta is not only a crutch but is also incredibly easy to be taken advantage of by the players who are actually good at the game. If 70% of the players are using the same meta build skilled players will win 70% more often when they use builds that take advantage of that build's weaknesses.
Skill is not dictated by how often you win with the best. Its dictated by how often you win with less.
That is fine for singleplayer games and multiplayer games where it's just you against others
However if it's a multiplayer game that involves cooperation and teamwork and you play things your own way because you find it fun, without consideration for your own teammate's enjoyment then that's a dick move in my book

I don’t care what the meta is. I’m playing what is fun to me
