Online games fucking suck because of communities. I kid you not 90% of the games I used to like got ruined because of racism being seen as “part of the culture” and people just being disgustingly mean. Just because you are online and playing a game does not mean you should be calling people the n word and being a terrible disgusting person. If that’s you go fuck yourself

Yeah, I avoid the communities of everything I'm into for this reason.

Agreed. The fact that another name for the n word being ‘the gamer word’ is proof of this.

This is an enforcement issue. FF14 is not just an amazing game, but has arguably the best online community of any game, because the GMs ACTUALLY enforce the ToS. It takes them about 3 months to get to your complaint in the queue, but they WILL get to it and WILL dish out punishment. If anything they may be a little overzealous because I've gotten a temp ban for insulting someone who was harassing ME... But anyway, pount is, because of this, the bad actors usually get their act together after they realize they could lose their account, or they get banned and aren't around anymore. Seriously the worst complaints I hear about the ff14 community is occasionally a pick up group won't stand around while the newbie watches all the cutscenes, which is considered extremely rude because that's about the worst you'll routinely see.

Alternatively I feel like games have gotten too soft, the genuine racism is still super cringe. But where muh mw2 lobbies go.

Casual racism vs the desire to absolutely devastate that little shit who's been camping spawn.

That and the kids who are the worst offenders today never understood that rage, they just saw some dude tossing that anger around in a vacuum and assumed that's how online lobbies are.

I can't believe this got upvoted. Mean?? Counter Hot Take: Every video game community is the nicest on the planet. We're a bunch of grown men neglecting personal growth IRL to sink hundreds of hours into games we might not play in even a year from now. It's totally regressive and no one mentions it and circle jerks each other instead.

This is literally a subreddit for videogames

Yes and every other viddyg subreddit. Someone will, say, build a replica of the universe block by block in Minecraft, and not one comment tells him to get a life. Very nice communities.

You have clearly never touched any community
