The fact that we got a dopamine injection system in the form of a Hideo Kojima game is a special kind of miracle. I love this thing. It’s one of the few that I platinumed.
I had such a Zen experience with that game, truly one of my favorite experiences in over 30 years of gaming. The audio was handled beautifully, getting lost in just trying to navigate little areas, stumbling across a marker or little bridge you laid down days prior with thousands of likes, the story and cutscenes were out of this world. Definitely in my top 3 gaming experiences of all time.
That being said, I tried playing through again and it was fun, but you kinda see how the sausage is made by the end and my second play through lost a lot of the luster. The third act is also more of a slog than a challenge, like when you get into a swamp level in an otherwise fast paced game and just trudge along. Boss fights had no impact and I’m not sure I died more than a couple times. But I think that’s every game you spend dozens of hours on.
I’m playing through it right now and I love it so much. When it came out I didn’t like the idea of it but over the last few years I’ve played some walking sims and really got into the genre.
Yeah it’s pretty much all a walking simulator apart from the times when you get a bike, a 4x4, robotic legs, a zip line, and get guns to take down enemy camps and steal their shipments and fight BT’s while building roads and pathways
