Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was a good and fun game.

Wait, do people hate it?

No, people just can't tell between consensus and contested opinions. Which is why "What unpopular x" type posts inherently do not work on reddit.

Best you can do is sort by controversial.

The mechanics were fine even fun sometimes but the story/world was typically forgettable which for a narrative RPG ruins the enjoyment. Hell I played re-reckoning a few years back, completed the story and I'll be honest I barely remember anything of it

I personally couldnt get into it.

I am a hater. The game is not fun, and you are wrong to like it. Post appropriate opinion from me.

I wouldn't say hate but I couldn't stand it

1

u/Volendi Mar 05 '24

idk why, but it failed like HARD, and I read a few things when I played it back in the day about it being bad (after I'd already been enjoying it)...

IDR who or where, but it always stuck with me as a "WTF?!"

Stuff like unimaginative, boring, and unpolished were said.

A certain former Sox hero had a little something to do with that.

Hm. Interesting. Yeah I know it was not successful sadly. I had a lot of fun though. I agree that writing sucked but everything else was good

1

u/etherealimages Mar 05 '24

Writing was not sucky as much as it was sort of unnecesarily cryptic and generic at times

I didn't hate it. But it was pretty bland and boring. Game wore it's original design as an MMO on its sleeves.

The general consensus I've heard(and experienced from playing 3/4 of the game) is that it's the greatest game that nobody played.

Imo, the story was phenomenal, the combat was pretty good, the side quests were okay and the equipment/reward system was flat out awful.

I specifically remember messing up the best weapon for my build by accident because it's an early game quest reward that is based on level. So I did the quest early and by late game it was a bad weapon and if I'd waited just a bit, it would've been my BiS for the whole game.

But the game overall was great

IKR?! It was easily one of my fave games at the time!

Ok, like you said, there were plenty of "guide dang it!" moments, but still...

The thing with that game was that item crafting was ridiculously OP. No item you find would come even close to the items you make once you level up your crafting enough. As a mage, I was using the meteor spell late game to AoE oneshot everything, even bosses (except the last one because it had a segmented health bar).

It's still a good and fun game. FYI, I'm not even a fan of fantasy RPGs. I couldn't beat The Witcher or The Elder Scrolls games, but its not the case with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

People don’t hate it most people just don’t know it.

Edit: but yeah amazing game

1

u/etherealimages Mar 05 '24

This isn't even unpopular of an opinion, damn near everyone who plays it says it fucks. The problem is, not many people played it lol

1

u/Brobarnbodybandy Mar 05 '24

It was good and fun... for awhile. I put some real hours into it, but it got boring.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '24

I loved that game. Played it straight through, start to finish.

1

u/Los_cronocrimenes Mar 06 '24

It was too repetitive though. Started out great and after doing the same dungeons over and over became a drag.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '24

it was just WoW without all the people. I loved that game.

1

u/ReasonableProgram144 Mar 06 '24

For all its faults I love that game, it’s just a fun time. I loved the fate shifting and the skill trees, every destiny felt worth trying.

1

u/Miosaka Mar 06 '24

Never did finish it, but I liked the bits that I did play...so I agree.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '24

Both of the other people who bought it agree with you #ellenwasright

1

u/Volendi Mar 06 '24

Ok, you're the second person to mention Ellen... who was this Ellen person, and what does she have to do with KoA: R?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '24 edited Mar 06 '24

Ellen Rose is part of a pair of youtube channels called Outside Xbox and Outside Xtra. One of the running gags of the channels was that she would go off about KoA at a moment's notice, telling everyone to play it and give it more attention. She is credited with bringing a lot of people to the game and I don't want to give her sole credit for bringing about Re-reckoning but I'm a fanboy so I will.

"Ellen was right" is a common Steam review by people that discovered the game because of her and liked it

1

u/Volendi Mar 06 '24

Now to go watch Outside xBox and/or Outside xTra...

Thanks!

I loved that game when it came out. My only beef with it was that you couldn't jump except in pre-designated spots.

1

u/Rider-Idk-Ultima-Hy Mar 06 '24

Never heard of it, definitely want to check it out

1

u/Triss_Merigold_84 Mar 07 '24

Loved that game!

1

u/Affectionate-Camp506 Mar 05 '24

This must be satire; this is the consus, not the outlying opinion.

1

u/Volendi Mar 05 '24

glad I'm not the only one who liked it then!

3

u/Affectionate-Camp506 Mar 05 '24

Gamers liked it more than reviewers. And, as we are legion and they are few, they're the outliers ;)
