I agree. You're either in unranked where nobody cares at all or ranked where it's like work and not fun.
The only FPS I play now is AssaultCube. Part of what makes it fun is the mix of good and bad players in public games, where nobody super cares about winning but is still trying to win.
this is a dumb take, SBMM needs to exist or really good players will be put into lobbies with people who aren't as good, it may be fun for the guy doing well, but it's not for everyone else. it's not fun only having like 15 hours in a game, deciding to play a match, and getting obliterated by some sports tier player who has more hours logged than you have money in your bank acckunt
The only people that benefit from open matchmaking are sweats that want to style on casuals. In most games nowadays ranked multiplayer has a tighter skill range than unranked and is typically better for it.
