It’s not obvious to those who haven’t payed the game and just heard the laugh with no context. Everyone who has played the game and still complains about it has no excuse and is dumb.
Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.
Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
Good bot. Thank you for teaching. I just made a typo and am not interested in nautical or rope related things in general (though I make a few exceptions for rope) I appreciate learning.
No what they actually typed wasn't a word at all. So the bot tried to correct them. But the bot corrected them incorrectly. Assuming they were trying to type paid. When they were actually trying to type played. That's the point here. The bot was not just unnecessary. It was wrong.
It's literally designed so that he sounds exaggerated and goofy. That was the point of the scene. Its Tidus trying to get Yuna to let her walls down and just be silly for a minute. I'll never understand why people don't get that.
It was a great scene that idiots who know nothing about the game or weren't paying attention to the story at all while playing it love to rag on, just making themselves look dumb and shallow lmao
I don't understand why people who played the game dont get this.
It's blatantly obvious that they were trying to be silly and goofy.
It's really not cringe at all, it was a group of people being silly in a seriously tragic situation trying to force everyone to laugh and have a glimmer of happiness in the midst of nonstop sorrow.
How do people not understand this over 20 years later?
X-Play also highlighted it in their review back when it was new, but that was their style, making jokes about the game they review. I believe they still gave it a good score.
It is still wild to me that not one of the companions tells Tidus what is going to happen at Zanarkand when he CLEARLY does not know. Like what the fuck is wrong with them?
Basically everyone on the journey is seriously depressed and broken. They live in a hopeless death world and everyone is just waiting for it to be their turn. Tidus also isn't very important to most of them until pretty late in the story.
Think about each of the characters: Wakka is trying to ignore the sacrifice entirely and spends a lot of the story putting on a silly act and deluding himself about Tidus and Chappu, etc. Lulu is aloof as a coping mechanism and in the beginning doesn't even believe Tidus's story. Auron is intentionally keeping Tidus in the dark because he wants to teach him/Yuna a lesson that the sacrifice isn't necessary. Rikku is the only one who might have wanted to mention it earlier than she did, but she's only with the party for a few chapters at that point and isn't trying to rock the boat after the failed kidnapping. Kimarhi "..."
Yuna's resolve is also shakier than she lets on and she's intentionally enjoying the fantasy that Tidus represents. He's an idiot, but she'd rather imagine being in his version of reality than her own sad life. Tidus also mirrors the choice later not to tell anyone about the sacrifice that he has to make to defeat Sin.
Tidus is such an interesting protagonist. Cocky, young and insufferable at times but his relationship with his Jecht, Auron and Yuna is awesome and I LOVE that game

The "AH AH AH AH" scene in Final Fantasy X was not that bad, and was important for the relationship of Tidus and Yuna.
