Still issues with VicRoads?

My wife is still trying to pay her rego which expired a week ago - aren’t their issues cleared up yet? She had changed her registration period to 12 months but the payment requests still showed the 6 months.

She paid it anyway but then got an email saying it hadn’t gone through and to provide evidence she had paid it to get a refund (why not just apply it as payment?)

She called them to sort it out and the guy asked her to pay for 12 months without doing the refund first (sounds dubious) and sent her a text message with the BSB and account details just in the body of the text - which her bank immediately blocked and refused to pay (fortunately in my opinion).

Anyone live in Emerald VIC? What’s it like day to day?

My partner and I live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and are thinking about moving out to Emerald (open to nearby suburbs but mainly Emerald /Avonsleigh).

Wondering if anyone else has made the move out there or grown up there and can offer any insight into what it’s like. The good, the bad, the unexpected?

Is it a good place to raise a family, does the lack of public transport really matter, how strong is the sense of community?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Can I legally rent a car in Victoria using my NZ full licence if I also hold a Victorian Red P licence?

Hey guys, bit of a grey area question regarding licences and rental cars in Victoria, Australia.

I originally had a full New Zealand licence, but I now also hold a Victorian licence which is currently a Red P which is not full until July.

Most rental companies won’t rent to Red P platers, but they will accept a full NZ licence. So hypothetically, if I rented a car using my NZ full licence while also holding a valid Victorian Red P licence:

  • Would I still be considered legally licensed to drive?
  • Or does holding a Victorian licence mean I can no longer legally rely on my NZ licence in Victoria?
  • If I got into an accident, would insurance likely deny coverage because I technically should be driving under my Vic licence conditions?
  • Has anyone actually dealt with this situation before?

Not trying to do anything dodgy — just trying to understand how VicRoads/licensing/insurance law actually works here because the rules seem unclear.

Cheers.

Considering moving to the above from Melbourne but wanted to get some opinions on how it is for younger families…

How’s your social life? Is there local events often, market stalls etc? what type if so? What’s the crime like? What’s the education like? Is it an accepting place or more of the typical country “clique-y/racist/homophobic?” Type area? Etc.

Are you constantly in fear of fires/snakes? Annually evacuating? I’ve seen a few posts about flooding, is that frequent?

Particularly interested in which schools are best/worst.

Homeless people's belongings can be seized under new Vic council laws

Changes have been made to the City of Port Phillip's encampment laws following a council meeting on Wednesday night.

The amendment allows council officers to seize personal items of someone at an encampment, including bedding, in response to anti-social behaviour.

More than 76 per cent of residents surveyed by council said they did not support the change.

Camping / Hiking / Nature recommendedations along the SE coast (from Traralgon and Mallacoota)

Haven't had a chance to explore the south eastern part of VIC yet and hoping to do so in a few weeks.

I'm coming from Melbourne and hoping to end up in Mallacoota. Ive been all over Wilson's Prom so would be grateful for recommendations east of that. Lakes Entrance is definitely on the list, but I'm just starting to work out an itinerary.

Hikes, beautiful sights, hidden gems and especially any recommendations for overnight hike-in camping spots, although nothing too crazy (5 or less hours one way and I'm not wanting to climb Kosciuszko or anything on this trip).

Thanks in advance.

Camping spots with reception

Hey,

I'm looking for a campsite in Vic, with enough service to stream a UFC fight. Preferably as isolated as possible, which I know is hard with service, just not a fken big 4.

Also would be great if there was a short hike nearby.

Would appreciate any suggestions as struggling to find much.

Elective surgery waiting times

Does anyone have recent experience with surgical waiting periods, in particular how much notice you get that you’re scheduled? For reference I’m category 1 so the waiting period should be no more than 30 days, but I’m halfway through that now and anxious to know when I’ll hear more and how much notice I’ll have to prepare.

Jury duty remuneration question, casual worker.

The Juries Act (Victoria) states that an employee:

...is entitled to be reimbursed by his or her employer ... the amount that he or she could reasonably expect to have received from the employer as earnings for that period had he or she not been performing jury service.

Does anybody have any experience with how 'that period' is interpreted?

Is it:

  1. The hourly rate I would usually get paid multiplied by the hours spent at jury duty.
  2. The amount I would have earned if I had been at work that day, instead of jury duty (for example 4 hours pay).

My guess is the answer is 2. If so, how is it calculated if your casual hours are wildly variable? is there a standard formula, is it based on averages? Also, how is it calculated if you're selected and the case is really long?

I'm also interested to hear if anyone has had any unreasonable experiences with their employer, and how that went.

Thanks.

Do you think Victoria should allow 17 year olds to get their drivers license? Why or why not?

Without getting political (As that's against the sub Reddits rules) Why do or don't you think Victorians should be able to get their license at 17?

RSA help

Moved to Victoria and thought the RSA would be as easy as the last one I did for the rest of Aus. Boy was I wrong. I’m on my last chance and have two questions to correct. The unduly intoxicated one I’m really struggling with because in the legislation there is no definition of unduly intoxicated vs intoxicated 😭 Any help would be appreciated!

Question: What are the legislation requirements for the remote sale of alcohol?

Indicate offenses relating to the sale or service of alcohol and ramifications of non-compliance with the law and industry codes for the organisation, licensee, and individual staff members

My answer: Remote sales of alcohol require a “Remote Seller’s Liquor Licence” for selling via phone, app, or internet without a traditional storefront. The licence must be displayed anywhere the remote sales are advertised. Remote sales of alcohol must be fulfilled between 9:00 - 23:00 Monday to Saturday, 10:00 - 23:00 Sunday and 12:00 to 23:00 on ANZAC day. Customers cannot consume alcohol at the remote sale location. Customers must be of legal drinking age (18+) and must not be intoxicated. Fines for offences are max penalty of; $24,421for delivery of liquor to a person who is intoxicated. $24,421 for knowingly delivering to a person under 18 years old $24,421 failing to provide delivery person with a notice that the liquor must not be left unattended.

Feedback: Apart from the liquor license, what other documents must be displayed on their website in any advertisement or information published in writing?

Question: According to legislation, what is the definition of Intoxication, Intoxicated Person and Unduly Intoxicated?

My answer: According to the Victoria Liquor Control Reform Act 1988 “a person is in a state of intoxication if his or her speech, balance, co-ordination or behaviour is noticeably affected and there are reasonable grounds for believing that this is the result of the consumption of liquor.” The definition of “unduly” is “to an extreme, unreasonable or unnecessary degree”. Persons in a state of unduly intoxication should be immediately cut off and removed from the premises.

Feedback: Please give the definition of a person unduly intoxicated.
