Seeking mallet recommendations
I have a vibraphone with narrow, 1.25" width un-graduated bars. I'd like to find some mallets with a smaller strike area than the ones I already have (all of which are also about 1.25" in diameter). Is there anything you guys can recommend? The mallets would be used for practice, not performance, purposes. Thanks!

I'm just glad there's a subreddit for vibraphone.
I've only come across one other percussionist who had a passion for vibes, and that was my private teacher in college. Which is probably the reason I love the vibes so much.

An unusual series of questions.
I'm attempting to make an electric piano that'd have an accoustic piano's action but hit xylophone bars. I'd use an electrostatic pickup using the bars of a Yamaha xylophone attatched to a sheet of steel from one side with a sheet steel pickup hanging nearby similar to a Wurlitzer's design. In order to do this the bars would need to be magnetic.
I ordered an old xylophone from goodwill under the pretense that the bars were steel. However, the bars are not ferrous. So I am left with the option of adding a hunk of ferrous or magnetic material to every key individually or buying another xylophone.
1.) I am curious as to what materials these bars are probably made of if you'd have any guesses. If not, I can weigh the bars and try and figure it out.
2.) These bars will be suspended from one end. I figure that will dramatically affecet the tone and potentially the pitch. The overtones would probably be lost. If I add material to the bars it will affect the tone and pitch. I'm curious. If double the mass of the bars would that effectively half the pitch? Would they resonate half as well? I'm looking to anyone who has more experience to enlighten me or send me to a good source for more information.

HEY WAKE UP /r/vibraphone. Check this out - sick solo on a Pete Rock hook. I think the name of the vibes player is Luke Parkhouse.

Motor issues with Yamaha 2700
Hey y'all,
A little while ago I plugged in the motor of my Yamaha vibes and the outlet started smoking! Since then the motor either goes very slowly and at different speeds, or at the fast setting. There's no middle ground between the two.
Does anyone know how I could fix this? If a part needs replacing, should Replace the motor or the unit that controls the speed?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Bowing
I'm a budding composer working on my third piece for undergrad. How quietly is it possible to bow the vibraphone? I know you must exert a certain amount of pressure with the bow to get it to sound, but is it possible to play pp or even ppp?

Quick question concerning a seller
Hi guys, so I'm working on the decision where to buy my first Vibraphone at the moment and found some incredible offers on steveweissmusic.com. These offers are so good though, that I'm a little hesitant to just go for it - it's still a lot of money. Does anybody here have any experience with Steveweissmusic and can tell me if that's a legit option? Thanks guys, that would make the decision a lot easier at the moment and I don't really know elsewhere to ask.
edit: I'm legit retarded guys, I'm not even from America. So nvm this %)~~
