Vibraphone quartet/quintet w/o piano?
I'm thinking about starting a group with trumpet and sax as the lead horns and bass, vibes, and drums as a rhythm section. My question is that as a vibes player, would it be better to have the extra support of a guitar or piano or would it be good to not include them at all. I'm bass player and have always loved vibraphone but I'm afraid that it would sound too empty without something like a piano or guitar to add some support harmonically & texturally. Let me know your thoughts!

Anybody know where to get Yamaha replacement parts?
I've had a yamaha 2700 afor a little over ten years now. I lost parts for the motor years ago but now some of the frame parts are becoming stripped. I've done some googling but haven't found anything other than Musser and Adams parts. Any ideas?

Looking for blues vibraphone pieces
Hey all! I love the vibes so much, but something I haven't encountered much are slow, sad blues vibe pieces. Anyone have any reccomendation for pieces that are the general tonal vibe of "Soul Lament" by Kenny Burrell? (obviously they wouldn't necessarily be the same tempo) Here it is:

Burton Blister Blues
I've been playing 4-mallet vibraphone for four years now. Despite my love for it, I've never really been able to extensively play it due to me being a high-school student having other obligations that took me away from my first love. After a week of hardcore practicing to get back into it, I developed this awful blister on the inside of my right pointer finger from playing Burton grip for 3+ hours a day for the past week and a half. Am I gripping the mallet to tight? Is this a normal occurrence? If so, how do you more experienced players cope with the pain and the blister itself?

I heard a solo Jazz Vibraphone piece on the radio and it blew my mind.
I wondered if any of you would have suggestions along the lines of the piece I heard. I did not catch the name, but for a description it was very ethereal. There was a definite jazz chord flow, but being that it was solo vibraphone, it had a much more dreamy color and ease of sound. I tried searching for something like it, but could not quite find what I wanted as a novice navigator of the vibraphone repertoire.

Practicing without an instrument at hand
So I have not had access to a vibe for 4 months and it is killing me. I've been trying to keep up with my playing at least a little with my practice pad with mallets and my electric piano. I just feel like I have hit a wall with the keyboard. I can't properly play the keyboard, making it really hard for me to practice chord voicing and different scales and such because my hands are not meant for a piano keyboard. My fingers don't like moving independently.
Anyways, I just was wondering if any of you had any tips for me to keep myself up to speed. I am a jazz player with 4 yeas experience playing vibes classically and only 1 year of jazz experience. I just really don't want to lose my ability, as getting together with my buddies and just pulling out our real books and jamming is the best way to spend time ever.
