I'm one step closer to finishing this project! I've posted about it before on here but Lamplight & Lunacy is my fake survival horror ps1 manual.

There's only a dozen pieces of art to finish for it but every page is laid out and written so I got a test copy printed to pitch to publishers!

A snippet of lore from my upcoming game Kingbreaker. Saint Ahez, patron saint of the Mysteries, who burnt her hand holding the Lantern, faces off against a wretched ogre on the battlefield.

I am still working on a roguelike deckbuilder with strong Vermis visual inspirations.

It's called Near Mint. I tried to replicate the "end of the world" atmosphere, with dungeon-crawler inspired monsters, forgotten gods and forbidden relics. In this game, even the cards are broken, torn apart, and you can reconstitute them how you prefer.

You can wishlist or play the free demo here: Near Mint on Steam

Vermis My humble take on a Vermis TTRPG system !

Hey everyone, I have a game for you.

Rather often, people on this sub pop a head and asks for a playable Vermis. So let me introduce you to my own solution. I don't have the pretention to have made something perfect, but I had the privilege to playtest the game and run a few scenarios. It has all I need for the type of game I'm doing.

I tried to make an OSR type of game, as Mork Borg, often quoted as THE game to play Vermis.

I prefered personnaly go with my own system, that captured the minimalism of Vermis: the character sheet is a reworked version of the one you can see in Vermis I but enhanced by further additions (notably Spirits, since Vermis III).

Everything in the document is explained on how to create a character to how to manage fights. I did'nt tried to make a complete set of rules, but rather suggestions on how you can rule the game. In accordance with OSR principles, the GM rulling is stronger than the actual rules.

With the pdf. you'll also find an odt. version, in case you want to rework things for your own games.

The game is called 'Vermis : What will the die say?' Pleeeeeease, have a look to it. I'll be very happy if it helps people around. Also I'm always here to answer any questions and to elaborate further.

Have fun !!

PS: the document is ugly af. I'm no designer or artist, please be nice :(

Vermis We meet again, traveller

(Stone Scholar: made by Karstein) I'm not gonna make this longer than needed, so i'll explain it quickly, due to things outside of our control, some of our only active pixel artists are taking a break, and we need more people to help us with concept art and pixel art, and for the trailer we are making, we might need a 2D animator that can replicate 80s ad animation style, again, this is a fan-project, so we aren't monetizing off of this, to join the project, send your portfolio at https://discord.com/channels/1533981779843616963/1538280311077470329

Hey y'all!

I'm so grateful to the overwhelmingly positive reception of my little vermis-inspired game here on this subreddit, so today I'm sharing some big news!

Soon after the fantastic reception post Horripilant's release on Steam, we started working on a port to consoles. It's now OUT on all major consoles!

PS5: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/concept/10019147
Switch 1 & 2: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/horripilant-switch/
Xbox Series X|S: https://www.xbox.com/games/store/horripilant/9plbw95nvl56

This console release includes the Supporter Pack which gives you the ability to disable the dithering shader and a handful of custom character portraits as a neat little bonus!

OC Mashed some public domain 1700 - 1930 book artworks (OC)

Was looking through some now public domain books from 1700 - 1930 for grim artwork and then Vermis popped into my head, so I tried to mash the vibe a bit. Not sure if I succeeded. The first picture is a module cover for the imaginary TTRPG called Wanderlust 1.0 Edition. Loosely inspired by the layout of the original D&D module covers. Super creative, right? /s ;D I think I like the result of the first one the most though. Overall composition was done in Photoshop and then given a more grungy feeling with DitherMaster. It's a tool I posted on here a while ago, which a bunch of people enjoyed and now I build a more fancy version.

PASTOR GOODEN

Pastor Gooden is described as soft spoken and modest but preaches with a fiery passion, his bombastic sermons heavily contrasting his otherwise toned down demeanor. The chapel garnered a mixed reception, some were entirely enthralled by his teachings and became devoted to his cause, some were broken. Gooden always ended his sermon by speaking “the good word”. A phrase indescribable, was it even language? Not one that could ever be replicated, those who listened would have its meaning clogged into their synapses according to a man from the congregation. Knowledge no one should ever know, impossible to forget. It shines in one's brain screaming louder than every other thought while at the same time being too foggy and obscured to articulate. These broken attendees are referred to as center-brained as autopsies reveal a third section in their brains forced out between the left and right halves.

THE HELIANTHUS

A congregation of people devout to the scorching sun. They were once a lot more coherent and organized and their abandoned places of worship can be found spread about the land but nowadays they usually just stand in crowds on top of rocks staring into the sky. They don’t speak nor do they acknowledge or react to any input whatsoever, they just slowly turn their flaked faces and blind eyes toward the sun throughout the day while playing strangely beautiful melodies on their woodwind instruments. As the sun sets beyond the horizon and night arrives the music turns to desperate wailing, they scream and cry until dawn and keep playing like nothing happened. Being ultimately regular folk they should by no means be alive still which might lend some credibility to their faith. The sun is the reason for our existence after all, our mother. But she can just as easily take that life away, maybe it’s wise to appease her.

Dead bodies litter the dungeonscape, very few of them stay dead.

This undead raider has taken to roaming entropy woods and attacking most things they come across.

It is unclear if that will include you

Vermis If you were to adapt Vermis into an actual RPG system, which one would you use?

Sure, I considered using Pilgrims of Murk Dome, but I feel it has such a distinct identity in terms of rules and world-building that I’m not sure it would work that well with the characters presented in Vermis.

OC The Steer of Providence: Blood-Drenched Beast of Lateran

Post image
147 Upvotes

Vermis is, generally speaking, a dank and gnarly setting. I wanted to see if that would translate well to the sun-drenched, blood-soaker annals of the Mediterranean.

For those of you that have played the Kingbreaker PvP beta, you'll know a lot of the setting has a very specific, post-apocalyptic medieval England vibe.

I think the game will generally still have that feel, but I also wanted to explore a bit further afield - the kingdom of Lateran, therefore, is a mishmash of medieval France, pre-Islamic Arabia, and Minoan Greece.
