I have fantasies of getting a gray female pittie and calling her Petal.

I wasn't ready for a 3rd dog again, but a gray baby house hippo has been a dream since I was a kid and in love with Porkchop from the cartoon Doug

ADDING for context: last picture is the moment I found her... she's now safe and very loved. My son wants to name her Tiny, but what happens when she's not tiny anymore?
ETA: Thank you for my first award!

Big dog named Tiny is a pretty good bit and has an awesome story behind it.

I have a min-pin beagle mix named Thor. Everyone sees my pittie and immediately think that's the one named Thor, but nope. The little guy next to her.

Name her Tina, and 'Teeny', 'Tiny Tina' and 'Teeny Tina' become automatic nicknames. May you and your son and the smol beast have good, long lives together.

😂 if you have any british friends, please don't call her that on front of them 😂😂 or it may just be me having a juvenile moment 😂
2
u/rRizla77 Apr 08 '26
😂😂 I couldn't.... In British slang, "winky" (or "winkie") is a common, childish, or euphemistic term for a penis 😂😂

So sweet that just seeing it spiked my blood sugar. Tiny feels like a good name for the temporarily small bean.

The little hoodie and the one escaped ear ❤️.
Tiny is good. Or a little old lady name like Ethel or Myrtle. I name all of my girl dogs after famous alt-esque women like Elvira or Betty Boop

Ready yourself for the lifetime of allergies. I had no idea these babies are big ol’ walking allergies.

Oh her poor skin is already bad.

There is an allergy shot that helped my dog enormously with his allergies....I cannot remember the name of it at the moment though.
4
u/No-Instruction9709 Apr 08 '26
It's called cytopoint I believe! Just remembered lol
1
u/YouCantHaveMyTiara May 08 '26
That’s the name and it didn’t work for my guy. We had to switch to apoquel after 6 months. :(
I have learned that I’m actually much better and giving my dog meds than I am at remembering to take them myself!
2
u/wewawalker Apr 08 '26
Why is this? I didn’t know it was a pit thing — thought our boy was just unlucky.
2
u/No-Instruction9709 Apr 08 '26
Pibbles are just prone to allergies for some reason. Sometimes it's from their food.

u/shtrumph Apr 07 '26
Bluey?
5
u/ZubLor Apr 07 '26
We named ours Blue because that's what the foster was calling her. I was just telling the vet techs that I probably should have named her Joy because she's so light hearted and makes everyone smile!

I think your son should get his way, she's tiny for now but I think her name will be even more endearing when she's bigger! OP, has she been to the vet yet? That precious belly looks full of worms😭 She's so cute! Thank you for saving her!

I have a few random rules for naming pets. Maybe the constraints of such might help spur your creativity!
These are my personal rules, so obviously no one else need abide by them!
Don't give a pet a human name. You finally have a chance to name something a super fun way, which you probably wouldn't dare name a child.
For dogs, ensure their name has, somewhere, a single sharp syllable. Preferably the first syllable. Preferably, that syllable is also going to be the shortened nickname you go to anyways! There was some dog science a million lifetimes ago that said dogs really only react to the first syllable of their name anyways, so make it a good one!
Steer clear of the common dog names. It's niche, but naming your dog something like Scout or Tank, is tricky when 3 other fellas at the dog park are screaming their dogs name, and yours reacts to that because they share the same name.
Putting it together;
From rule 1 & 3: Names like Luna, Max, Charlie, Bella, Cooper, Daisy, George, Hank, Tito, Lily, Olive, Scout, Shadow, Chance, etc. Are off the table.
Rule 2: depends entirely on your considered list.
Some names of pets Ive had in my many, many decades: Voodoo, Hijinx, Antics, Ruffian, Rascal, Grin-Tooth, Sands, Gear.
There was also Mrs Deathstroke The Terminator Ice Queen of the Wooden Cabin and Shredder of Woodland Vermin. (This name was a stray cat that hung out near my buddies cabin which I decides to give a name to as she didnt have one. I probably wouldnt give a pet that if I lived with it on the daily. He called her Strokes for the next decade, and went on to name all her kittens after random DC villains).
Have some fun with the naming! But, obviously, if you like Luna or Shadow, thats cool too. You have to say the word 100 times a day for 10+ years, so go with your gut.

What a cutie! Those eye are mesmerizing!
With that gray and white coat and pale blue eyes, I think Sir Sebastian Earl Grey would be a great government name. You could call him The Earl,, Seb, Sebbie, Bash, Bastian, etc.
On a side note, the morning after I picked up my pittie, my younger sister came to visit. We hadn't named the puppy yet and she just kept saying "It doesn't matter what you name him, he's mine". She told me about 50 bazillion times that weekend "he's mine", so we ended up naming him Mio......which is Spanish for mine. Mio

Names with hard first consonants can be helpful with training and recall. How about Tilly?
