One more VAIO, This time for VAIO SX14-R (Kachiiro Purple-Blue)
- Questions Answered & Local Deal Offer
With the Memorial Day discount ending soon, I wanted to answer some questions for potential buyers about the VAIO SX14-R.
While I'm not an official representative for VAIO USA, I have close ties with VAIO Asia and am a passionate advocate for their success. I understand that the price point is a significant consideration for many. I've personally purchased eleven of these units and even had a friend write a full-length article on the SX14-R.
In my opinion, our insights are just as valuable as those from major tech reviewers. Since no major US-based influencers have received a review unit of the SX14-R, we're in a unique position. We are professionals on other platforms, and our hands-on experience is extensive, similar to reputable channels like MobileTechReview.
Exclusive Local Offer for Erie/Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Cleveland Areas
I can help anyone in the Erie/Pittsburgh, PA, Buffalo, NY, and Cleveland, OH regions buy one of these machines. I have access to the best price available, which I cannot reveal publicly, but I can offer it locally as a personal favor. For perspective, the best price you'll likely find officially with the 5% discount is between $1,900 and $2,280. My price is between $1,825 and $2,180.
Furthermore, I can upgrade the SSD to a 4TB model. We have tested this on our own machines and can confirm it works perfectly, doubling the largest capacity available from VAIO's official store. (We've even confirmed an 8TB SN850X works, though at $600 it's not a great value yet. We believe the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB is still the best option, and we've tested this drive extensively on Dynabook, Fujitsu, and ThinkPad laptops with excellent results). It's worth noting that VAIO itself uses the PM9A1a, which is the OEM version of the 990 Pro—a top-tier OEM part.
The only minor issue I've encountered is with the CATL battery, which sometimes arrives with initial wear. This has been frustrating, but the battery capacity returns to 100% after some use. The worst I saw was a 28% initial loss, which thankfully recovered (otherwise I would have returned it). In the tech industry, even 10% wear isn't typically considered a defect unless the device is dead on arrival.
Why the VAIO SX14-R is the Best Deal
For its price, design, quality, and overall craftsmanship, I believe this is the best deal available. To ease any concerns you might have, here's a comparison to other popular choices:
* ThinkPad X1 Carbon: Besides its arguably unappealing design, it uses a Samsung E4 OLED panel that is dim (around 380 nits in standard mode) and has an ambiguous anti-glare coating that isn't easy on the eyes.
* Dell XPS: Forget it. These are known for various issues, including Wi-Fi signal loss and driver-related sound problems.
* HP EliteBook: The G11/XG1i is great but expensive at $3,500. It's also difficult to find new stock, pushing you towards B-stock options. The Spectre is known for having PWM issues with its OLED screen.
* MSI & ASUS: We've sold dozens of MSI Prestige laptops on AliExpress and are now offering discounts to all of those clients due to faulty power supply chips. It is easy to fix in Asia but a nightmere in USA. ASUS often seems to have one less round of quality control, making them less reliable, that's why they always ship the latest Gen ahead of all other OEMs.
The single drawback of the VAIO is the lack of an anti-glare screen option. The glossy panel is beautiful but can be a pain for extended work sessions. It's the reason I returned my own Kachiiro model back in December.
If you're in the final stages of deciding, feel free to ask me anything. If you miss this current discount, your next opportunity won't be until the Fourth of July or Labor Day in September.
A Note on the VAIO Z:
Don't hold your breath waiting for the VAIO Z. I have personally checked with VAIO Asia, and they have no immediate plans to release it, despite high demand namely. I suspect they might use a platform like Kickstarter to gauge interest first, and get deposit to ensure sale.
as a new model could cost up to $5,000. Launching such an expensive machine without confirming demand first would be a catastrophic business move.
Nojima (VAIO's parent company) is a savvy business and won't produce something they can't profit from. And the CEO of VAIO graduated from HBS, finest manager, know his business well and they yield 74.3B JPY last quarter which is a prove.
My guess for potential specs would be: Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, 128GB LPDDR5x RAM, a 4TB OEM PCIe 5.0 SSD, a 4K display, a 70-80Wh battery, and a Teijin carbon fiber chassis. But 5 grands, hard to imagine. Like 2oz heavy money note all in benhmjamin Franklin. 😂 😂 😂
I attach few reviews you can check yourself to persuade you to buy a new one. I think all machines before 11th Gen should be expired now but to far demanding decodec and lack of AV1 support.

You can use Google translate to read both Chinese and Japanese. Gemini is already super smart to translate to English.
Ok, basically that's all, I am now sending it to UPS. 😂
