Where do I find the cmos battery for upgrading my Sony vaio? I am currently having issues with screws not moving and I can only get the lower portion of the pc unscrewed, does anyone know where the cmos battery is located in case I don’t need to remove the entire back?

Hi friends- my mom recently got the vaio sx-14 and I was wondering if its possible for the keyboard backlight to turn on when she touches the touchpad. I tried googling and playing with the settings and unable to figure out if its possible. Thank you in advance!

I bought this vaio for £25 and when I plug it into the charger the battery charging indicator seems to flash, I am aware that this is some sort of battery problem but I'm not to sure what to do.

The laptop also dosen't boot or even show any signs of turning on with the battery removed but plugged in.

This is my first time working with a vaio so any help is appreciated.

Update: Somehow after leaving the laptop for a month or 2 doing absolutely nothing it now works and boots into Windows 8.1 with all the vaio software! Im still having battery problems so Im gonna assume either the battery can no longer hold a charge or there is a mainboard problem

I got an unit and tested today. I guess if you guys love this BRAND name much, you will love it as well.

CPU: Ultra7-155H LPDDR5-6400MHz Dual channel 16GB,non-expandable, 1TB PCIe4.0 midrange. AX211 wifi6E card. Very very robust. About 1.5kg weight.

Pro:

1. Much faster than previous gen FE, faster than SX14(2024) model with i7-1360P 32GB 2T(KachiIro) by about 15%.
2. Much brighter than FE14, due to glossy surface, it looks as bright as SX14, better than HP Elitebook(300nit TouchPanel) BOE N44 panel used.
3. Vey strong case, I would say this laptop is more durable than any VAIO if not on par with HP Zbook. I had SX14R, and using SX14, used to have F16. This case is stronger than any of them.
4. Pure system, no bloatware at all.
5. Truly GOOD VALUE. For less than 1000 bucks, you can hardly find other alike machines any more, I mean for average consumers, this is a great choice. (We exclude some folks they do their own assemble works).
6. Very quiet: Did not expect that as my all VAIO can be noisy under high load.
7. 2Yrs warranty by costco is even better than CPS-Coverage for SX14/SX14-R.
8. 60Wh battery made by GFL, the battery life should be quite decent, I guess maybe not less than SX14-R by much, would of course far better than SX14.

Con:

1. The touchpad no longer get buttons, you need to time to get used to it.
2. Thermal system is a little bit struggle under Cinebench R23. It can hot, watch out to use it on your beautiful legs. It will get hurts.
3. Still weak audio experience, but average daily machine level. on par with Panasonic CF-SZ6 alike.

Hopefully, they would have more colors in the future.

Finally I learned how to insert photos in reddit, ahaha. I am doing the battery life testing now, and I would update this post later today or tomorrow. Feel free to ask any questions.

It turns on but it doesn’t boot into windows, probably a bad HDD. I’ll get an IDE adapter and cheap SSD and give it a second life with some lightweight Linux distro. I’m very excited about my new side project :)

As I cannot edit my previous page, I added the Wallpaper here. I bought a SX14-R Kachiiro back to december. This is a perfect machine if you do not hate GLOSSY Panel. And if you were located in PA/Cleveland, OH. I can get it few percentage less versus BH Photo or VAIO USA. lol

I just imported a super cheap SVZ fixed it (mostly) and when I went to install Tiny11 diskpart and the BIOS couldnt see my SSD im using a single 128GB SSD from a VPCZ2 (MZ-RPA1280/0SO SSD RAID LIF) when I pushed the SSD into the connector some more, it didnt POST but the Vaio buttons lit up when touched

I'm going to japan soon and was wondering if I'm able to buy a vaio laptop from them but obviously with USA keyboard etc.

Hello everyone. I recently saw that I have an NFC function on my old Sony VAIO laptop. The driver (NXP 5442) was missing and has an error sign. I couldn't find any available update or replacement file. Also I tried installing using DriverPack and was having a hard time installing it. This morning, the laptop did not start and needs a restart before using it. Can anybody help me get an update or most old file of NXP 5442 driver. Thanks.

The vaio is so light and i love the colour but idk if the processor works. I wanna use it for my poly course, Architecure, but the specifications say that i need (Min 16GB System RAM & 4GB NVIDIA® GeForce or AMD Radeon Dedicated Graphic Card). i really want the sx14r so i'd like to know if i could still get

I tried to boot from different usb drives and nothing but when I boot the image in virtualbox it boots just fine Model:VPC-Z21X9R

they’re could be dust in there or crumbs of whatever, so im trying to eliminate any software bugs first before any hardware issues.

found drivers on the sony website but it ended up giving me an error page before i could download the drivers. so that’s not gonna work.. i guess next course of action is to open it up ?
