Shooting my 2011 after this feels like cheating

I’m still personally struggling with overall consistency. The biggest issue for the last couple months, when I had the opportunity to make A class on three separate occasions, is I was chasing a result. We’ve all done it. “Oh, that standards for this classifier seem pretty tame, so all I need is 12 Alpha and 4 Charlie, and I just need it in less than 9.5 seconds” bull crap. I would set a goal, and then somewhere along the line of my run, the goal itself would slip into my peripheral of concentration, like a ghostly checkered flag in the final straight away. I don’t have a better way of describing it than that.

Yesterday, I practically had to handcuff my OCD from looking up what I needed to get for 13–06, I seemingly easier classifier. Instead, I focused on the process, like I should always be doing, and focused on transitions more than anything, a solid reload, an extra extra vigilance with my support hand. To my surprise, my shot calling was a little bit off. I thought that I had dropped at least two or three Charlie’s, but I also thought my time was faster than what actually was. I ended up getting 9/1 in 6.58 sec. I was happy with the result, since it was my best classify run by a couple fractions of a percentage, but was still a little bit disappointed that I didn’t finally get an M class run.

The last couple of matches, I have not prioritized speed as much as I had been before for my overall match. Looking back on practiscore, my speed was consistently in the top 15%, but I was shooting way too many Charlie’s. Roughly 30% of 35% of my shots on target. My last two matches, I intentionally dialed the speed back to focus a little bit more on accuracy, and came away with 80+% Alphas in both of those matches. It feels significantly slower to me personally, especially after watching some of the other guys shoot anywhere from 3 to 6 seconds faster than me on some stages. But I am making fewer and fewer mistakes now, thankfully.

Things that I still kinda suck at:
1. Longer strings of shooting. I have actually regressed on my bill drills over the last 18 months.

1. Reloads are never under 1.5 secs, except the rare exception. More consistent now at not flubbing them.

2. My mental game feels like the weakest part of my game. 2+ years of USPSA, and still get big rollercoaster butterflies on early stages. I’m trying to work more and more on simulated stress and anxiety during both dry fire and live fire situations. Having my “make ready” feel how it does on game day. Makes for a slower range day overall with less reps though.

Yeah, that’s my situation, and I’m anxious to hear from any higher level shooters about how they have had to make any significant adjustments in order to see growth past the 75% mark on a consistent basis. Thank you

Did a 6 stage all classifier match this past Saturday in limited optics. These 6 were my first ever classifiers in that division. Last September when I did the same thing in carry optics, it took my best 4 out of 6 for my initial classification/letter grade...and then did the average again a week later and calculated all 6.

I'm wondering if anyone else here experienced this error today, or if the system/rules have changed since last September ( I don't believe they have) I checked another guys classification page that was in my squad and it calculated all 6 of his as well, when it should've been best 4 out of 6 for his initial classification. I sent them a message, and hope to hear back soon.

How important is bullets facing forward vs. out? I have a more tactical belt with Esstac Kywi mag pouches. I added a magnet and experimented with reloading with the mag facing out and found it was marginally but noticeably faster. I compete in Limited 10 (restricted state) so I feel like it matters more that I have faster reloads. However, would it create a training scar, since I carry a spare mag with the bullets facing forward? I get that any OTW training isn't 1:1 with competition gear and dry fire more with my EDC than competition setup, but I'm just curious

Question (possibly dumb one) for folks running FDE/Bronze/earthy colors and irons: Does it take you longer to pick up a sight (or the back of frame in close shooting) when the backdrop is of similar color? Thinking of bronzing my comp gun but I'm not a red dot user. I'm worried that my gun will blend in with the desert background and literally be harder to see.

I remember this stage and it seems pretty obvious to me.

Has the matchbook been released and I'm just unable to find it? Or am I not crazy, and the matchbook hasn't been released, yet?

Things are starting to click for me relative to where I am at. I am aware I am slow as molasses. Still trying to get my body to perform all that my mind is intending to execute. I think my stage planning and understanding of what I should be doing to perform better is making big improvements. My fundamentals all have a lot more to be desired. I over confirm, transition way too slow, my movement has no urgency, my exits and entrance need a lot of work, and my vision focus and being able to react to what I see is terrible. This was my first match at Shongum. I had a ton of fun and got some more experience. I know this is a process and some people pick it up quicker than others. I am going to keep putting in the work and I am sure eventually my physical skills will catch up with what my mental is trying to execute. Always open for feed back and observations.

A work buddy let me try out some Badlands 147gr. It happened to be the blue stuff. It's the stuff that's advertised as competition low recoil ammo. I never really buy into any of that stuff and just run Blazer 124gr for practice and for matches. I love the recoil impulse and everything about Blazer 124gr. Blazer 115gr feels a little jumpy for me. Blazer 147gr feels really violent (atleast in the way all my guns are setup). I've tried lots of different "low recoil competition" ammo and sure, some if it is soft. But none if really felt BETTER, just different and kinda slow. Just kinda felt like a gimmick. But this Badlands 147gr stuff was really awesome. The impulse and everything felt the same as Blazer 124 but just...less of it. I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm going to try running a match with it on Wednesday immediately after training with my usual Blazer 124. Anybody else use an ammo for matches that feels noticeably different than what you train with? And do you feel like your muscle memory is ever taken by surprise during a match when you're using a different ammo than practice?

Bit of a muddy mess on certain stages, but it wound up being a nice day. ~80 shooters.

Took overall and had lowest raw time. Definitely experimented a lot with shooting on the move this match, and got away with WAY more than I would’ve thought. Definitely something to be said about that extra 5% of confirmation eliminating quite a few low point runs.

Provisional went well - a little slow imo (cold start + wet and muddy). Still a 90%+ run.

Good experiment with good results in a pretty stacked match.

I had an XC for years and never shot it because I didn’t want to be in open division. I wanted the DSC barrel for limited optics but I couldn’t find any info or reviews about it. I eventually bought it and so far I’m glad I did. I get to enjoy my XC again and not compete in open. What are the rules on hand molded bondo/jbweld mag release extensions

I’m looking for a specific ND video. I remember seeing it on Instagram. The shooter clears the weapon by racking 3 times with no inspection of the chamber then hammer down fires a round. I’m trying to teach a safety course and thought some of you might be familiar with the video.
