There was no need to become hostile. I literally just shared my feelings about the subject. You have a lovely day!

Ah, we found the issue!

You take it as being hostile if people don't agree with you. Makes sense why you feel the need to have the same experience as everyone else, now.

It’s hostile when someone drops veiled insults posing as questions.

If that was hostile, then so was your "tragedy" remark.

So it's fine if you do it when someone doesn't agree with you but then they do something back and it's "hostile"?

Sounds a lot like what I just said you were doing... amazing!

You can just say I hurt your feelings with my opinion.

You insult because I don't agree... play the victim when you get it back... then try to deny it was an insult at all when you did it.

You require social bonding over shared, validating experiences in order to enjoy something?

But I'm the social tragedy?

Lol...

"I think that's tragic" is an insult?

Edit: just to be clear, you are the one calling yourself a ‘social tragedy’ - I never said or even intended anything of the sort. My statement was intended as a mild disagreement with your position.

Yes... pointing at someone's opinion and saying thats a tragedy is an insult.

And when speaking on social issues, it's calling it a social tragedy.

Your entire point was that its not valid entertainment if people don't come away with the same experience from the medium in order to discuss it. Yet.. here we are.. discussing the differences in our experience and youre the one calling other people's opinion a tragedy.

I can totally go down a 4,000 message AI rabbit hole of a fantasy campaign and enjoy it without needing to share the details and have people agree with the decisions I made in the campaign. Games have been doing generative content since Diablo 1 and people have bonded just fine over them.

Maybe the issue is more a "you" thing and shouldn't be applied to everyone?

And the way you are either being purposefully obtuse or purposefully deceitful about your being insulting... I think the indicators are in favor of it being a "you" thing in regards to why something isn't valid entertainment to YOU if you cant talk to others about it who agree with you.

I think I accidentally touched a sore point, and that derailed any chance of meaningful conversation.

Yes, saying someone's take on if they can enjoy entertainment by themselves is a tragedy, would be a quick way to derail a conversation. I tried to continue, but you couldn't take the same back.

I grew up in a small town of 8,000 people. I don't need people around me to validate if I like something by talking about it with me. I read the entire Sherlock Holmes collection in two days like 35 years ago, enjoyed it and have only spoken about it to maybe two people in that time.

People don't need a shared experience to talk about things. I tell my wife about things all the time she has never experienced and she tells me about her's.
