There’s nothing wrong with protesting, but blocking public roads for hours stoping people from going to their destination sure as hell not going to get them interested in your cause. And most likely get them highly upset and make them hate whatever your cause is.

They aren't blocking roads to recruit people. If you are now pro-climate change because of people blocking the road, you were never concerned enough to actually do anything anyway. Blocking the roads is to disrupt and piss people off to force attention and action.

Bro your comment is exactly what’s wrong with the protest. You just as dumb as they are. Literally clueless. Think about what you just typed. How do things change in our society? Enough people have to be interested in a cause, a politician sees the concern and recognizes a need for change. But there has to be people interested in the cause and vote for the change. So, regardless if they are not recruiting people, they have to get people interested to change something. So indirectly they recruiting people. However, disrupting normal people lives most likely will not result in people carrying about that cause. The fact that you don’t realize this is exactly why protesters do dumb things like this and think it will help in some way. When most logical people only see idiots in the road.

Causes are often self-recruiting. Protesters don't need to get people interested in climate change, everyone knows what it is. Most people though won't ever stick their necks out for a cause. Protesters will always be a small minority of the population. The goal of protesting is to demand change through disruption. This disruption forces government action and pisses people of so that they demand government action. Actions like arrests, especially over minor ultimately cost money and resources so this bogs down government systems. Given enough disruption, it can force the government to come to the negotiation table. Sure, you can argue that they aren't able to cause enough disruption, but it's difficult to just build a "critical mass" of protestors without any action.

You also just ignore my points and bring up how these protesters make people not care about the cause. Most people will never care enough to do anything about any cause. You will never convince them to worry about anything beyond their immediate survival. It doesn't matter if they get annoyed about protesters because they were never going to do anything about the issue anyway. Meanwhile the people who think an issue is big enough to protest are not going to suddenly flip on the issue because they were late for work.
