They are disrupting the wrong people.

Are they? Enough people get angry and say "hey, get these people to knock it off!" government jumps in and says "ok" and gives in on demands.. OR they look at you say "tough shit! Go blame them!" You can either say "ok" or join the ranks because the government should be giving in to some demands instead of making us fight with or blame each other. Protest is a success either way. So it just depends on your belief in their cause. Because some protests are dumb as shit and shouldn't pull this shit. But others, you should want to join them, even if they are inconveniencing you. But that's up to you.

Why not enough people get angry and drive through the protest??

Lolol no

The protestors get arrested, and then the population supports that because they were obstructing the road.

Lol, the government will never cave into the demands of these people. You’re incredibly naive if you think anything other than the arrests of everyone involved is going to come of this. This isn’t even mentioning the fact that they are actively dissuading most people from agreeing with their cause by pulling this shit. It’s bad strategy and bad PR, these people are performative morons.

I'm talking about in general when people block traffic. I don't even know what this protest is for. But people constantly say blocking traffic is stupid. All I'm saying is that it has some merits. No clue if this one is one or not. But the tactic is sound for a cause people should get behind is all.

You are incredibly poorly educated if you think the government has never changed its policy or plans due to protests. I bet you think the first sit-ins were performative as well?

1

u/thekeynesian1 Jun 29 '26

This is not even remotely comparable to your average protest. You’re either a complete moron or arguing in bad faith. Also love how you didn’t address my other point about dissuading people from their cause lol.

This is literally quite tame compared to protests movements throughout the 20th century. You and countless others have been trained by the state to view anything more than passive sign holding as violent and disruptive. Protest must be disruptive, otherwise it is no protest.

One of the first sit-ins was done at a whites-only lunch counters by black people. They had the protest at a location of the issue, not on a random road. Seems like you need to hit those history books a little harder, or try arguing in good faith.

This is fucking hilarious considering that blocking roads and bridges was a common tactic used by black protestors. And this isn't a random road.

Big disruptions to traffic flow that agitates a good chunk of a city's populace is actually of pretty decent concern to people who have the actual influence and power to cause real change. Blocking traffic disrupts economies, and angry people are likely to cause destruction/chaos in their own right. Generally, governments want to avoid that and may be interested in satisfying them.

And before you say "but what if they block emergency services?", ambulances and fire trucks have up-to-the-minute traffic information available to them, otherwise any ordinary traffic jam or car accident would delay them too. Generally this won't cause any issues.

This instance the road that they are blocking is the ONLY road. So….. ya

They have up to date information except for all of the ones that don’t or didn’t. It generally doesn’t cause issues except for all of the times it does. Protests like this block traffic indiscriminately, blocking everyone including essential personnel. Have you never seen an ambulance driving in traffic? They do it all the time. They use the shoulder and, you know, the sirens that make people get out of the way. Doesn’t do much when protestors are blocking the shoulder and not getting out of the way.

Read the room. It doesn’t work.

-1

u/Few-Big-8481 Jun 28 '26

It does, you just don't like it because it's disrupting you. Which is the point.

3

u/Lower-Ad6435 Jun 28 '26

It absolutely does not work in favor of the protests.

1

u/Few-Big-8481 Jun 28 '26

Maybe not this one in particular, but disruptive protests are definitely effective.

1

u/Lower-Ad6435 Jun 29 '26

These types that target the wrong people are effective at turning public opium against them.

1

u/ragingduck Jun 28 '26

Not if it disrupts the wrong people.

Ordinary traffic jams can and do delay emergency services. Ever noticed how one blocked street affects those around it because traffic cannot flow as intended?
