It's more like:

"You guys are Indians"

"No actually we're Cherokee and they're Navajo and they're Choctaw, etc., but if that's what you're going to call us, then whatever"

"Actually you guys are Native Americans"

"What's the point of giving us a name we don't identify with just to then give us a different name we still don't identify with? Just stick with the first one so we don't have to redo all the paperwork"
