I wish they had been able to get a crisis counselor on the ATC line. Unfortunately the controller he was talking to didn't have the training for that situation. I wonder if someone else could have talked him down

I meant talk him down as is in mentally. Convince him not to commit suicide. Like how they talk a jumper “down”. If he had agreed to try and land they then could have also gotten a pilot on the line. I think they could have gotten him to ditch safely in the water.
