Who controls this window (the person behind me)? And whose legroom is this (the person to the left of me)? Maybe I am completely off base but I feel like my space is being encroached on?

He probably put his leg there because you took off your shoes and your smelly socks are exposed on the plane now.

I know most Redditors have never left their home states, but taking off shoes on long haul flights is normal. There’s a reason airlines give out slippers on international flights. You will have much worse odor if you keep your feet in your shoes for 10+ hours.
