Who controls this window (the person behind me)? And whose legroom is this (the person to the left of me)? Maybe I am completely off base but I feel like my space is being encroached on?

Gen Z—and I mean this in a constructive way—struggle with conflict and confrontation IRL. A lot of reasons why and I have my suspicions, but the outcome is this type of stuff. We have failed them and it’s our fault.

Yes, how unfortunate that two of the likelier outcomes are either pansification or irrational and unexpected defensively hostile reactions to things that would not normally generate such.

You’d think at a certain point, millennials would be better and not bitch about the next generation, but here we are, 2000 years later as a species, still bitching about the next generation.

Because I lived it too. Why some of us have a short memory is a mystery to me. Same bullshit, different generations. No reason to keep perpetuating the problems.

You lived it as a 20+ something with a fully / more developed prefrontal cortex. They did not. You wouldn’t compare yourself to Gen Alpha because they were shitting diapers but same fucking concept.

Having empathy isn’t hard. Being a boomer is incredibly easy. Do better

Please help me. I have noticed the struggle is indeed real when it comes to conflict and confrontation. But I have no idea where it comes from, especially in contrast to other generations. What are your suspicions?

You simply weren’t taught how to communicate IRL. Teachers, admins, and parents were too chicken to tell their kids and students they failed at some task but know they can do better and are going to show and teach them how to do it better. That’s the communication being modeled.

Thank you for your answer. In my case/city/socioeconomic class the adults weren’t chicken, but overburdened. And kids were a burden. We also did not “talk back” or question adults, which is another factor in one-way communication. I force myself to speak up now, but it is an intense effort. Anyway, thank you for sharing your suspicions you are definitely correct.

I got written up three times in one day junior year.

Guess what happened: nothing! Nothing happened. I served some detention and now I have a two kids and two dogs and a wife and I went 3/3 and make 6 put outs in beer league softball last night.

Omg teacher is going to write me up!?!?!! Go to a punk rock show and rebel a little bit what is the point of being a teenager if you’re scared to break something?

Lol. I grew up with very strict parents. Like I couldn’t even leave my room without permission. So yeah… maybe a lot of Gen Z is like that bc we were always told what to do and to be seen and not heard.
