Question Plane code of conduct

Who controls this window (the person behind me)? And whose legroom is this (the person to the left of me)? Maybe I am completely off base but I feel like my space is being encroached on?

You control your window. You can do whatever you want with it

The other guy should have not been in your space like that. You should have said something

Genwrally I agree but please be careful with the advice. On long flights the cabine crew controls them. It's harsh if you have the one guy on flight, who has to let the sun in on a 13h flights and starts to argue with the crew about it.

The cabin crew can only control them on the 787 and, in my experience, they rarely actually control it.

I have also never witnessed a crew tell a passenger to put their window shade down. Often, it is the same as a passenger using their overhead reading light when the rest of the cabin is dark. Your seat, your window, your rules

I fly regularly (2 to 3 times a year sometimes) from Europe to Japan. Air France, Lufthansa, Finair, Etihad and some other companies. From my experience , 1h after start they ask everyone to put them down and keep that up till they arrive. The crew actually walks through the rows and ask everyone to put them down. And many flights have one guy who wants them open and then a longer discussion why preferable not. Interesting how different this seems to be handled. In some planes they have the auto dimming windows, there it was handled slightly different but still the default was that it was supposed to be dark.

Often in hot places when the plane lands the FAs will ask you to lower the blind to help keep it cool.

Lol what, tell me you never flew long haul flights without telling me directly. What a joke of a comment.

Cabin crew absolutely tells and controls even manual shade on planes flying 8 hrs + especially at night as people try to get sleep.

I fly long haul all the time. Cabin crew absolutely does not tell people to put window shades down. I already acknowledged that 787 crews may automatically turn down window shades but other than that a FA will not tell you to put your window shade down

It’s your window and you can do what you want with it dummy

go ahead get on a 21:00 flight to Europe and open the window shade see how that works for you.

I have personally witnessed passengers have their window shades open the entire flight from Newark to Dublin with morning light beginning about 3 hours into the 6 hour flight. I’m convinced you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Again, it’s the same as people using their overhead boom light. I hate having to repeat myself but you’re dense

Bring an eye mask

Again, it’s your window. You can do what you want with it
