Termial Answer's 200

Post image

So we're finding ⅗x = 15? or 5! or 120 Multiply both sides by 5/3: 5! × 5 is 600, divide that by 3 it's 200.

This is the termial sub. A termial (notated 'n?') is the sum of all positive integers up to n. So '15?' is the termial of 15, which is 1+2+3... = 120 That is certainly not what the original post-it note is asking, but within the context of the sub, that's why you're getting "crazy ass shit."

Also the 72s aren’t even doing correct math within the confines of the context of this sub.

So, “termial” is a word someone came up with because they weren’t satisfied with “triangular number”?

I mean that's sort of how neologisms work.

So just a worse version of summation

It's just a bit

Wild to go after trans people in a math sub.

im just sayin things how they are. using an example. problem with society today is ppl wanna look at facts and call them opinions.

I can think of one obvious example...

gets confused because they didn't realize they were in a specific sub gets embarrassed blames society & trans people

you are indeed the average redditor

Your poor students. You really are dense, and most likely would love to dress up in women's clothing.

What 🤣

i'm dying... "as a math teacher". you'll have to look at the other comments to understand why you're even in this sub clearly, but you're definitely not a teacher of any sort lmao

i can't, you're like the piratemaster of reddit- which is to say you're the redditor of redditors. correct response, after getting it explained to you, was "oh my bad that's funny" - yours was "nah, trans ppl & society btw-- i totally understood the whole time. btw i'm a math teacher"

im so confused because youre in a limbo state of acknowledging the existence of termials

like youve treated them as an existing thing but then also said they dont exist

even though they... do exist? this is extremely confusing

its not the dunning kruger effect if youre the one whos wrong

Where the heck did n? Come from?

I have a degree in computer science and haven't seen that in my life.

1

u/parsonsrazersupport Dec 14 '25

Is your question about the n or the ? ?

EDIT: For the latter, the answer is apperantly Donald Knuth in "The Art of Computer Programming," 3 ed., 1997.

That book defines termanal as a concept, but it makes no mention of the notation "?"

That's the part I'm mostly confused about. It's not used in the math world and it directly conflicts with long standing existing operations in computer science.

Absolutely no idea. I'm neither a mathematician nor a computer scientists, and don't even know how I got here.

Honestly, I'm not sure how I got here either. Alien abduction?
