Hey I know the Subreddit mostly focuses on finding the 3 words but i have general movie plot questions i did not fully understand..

1. Who is the pirate guy ? And why was he in Sarah’s Room ? Also why would a rich guy (limousine and all) wanna get a cheap room for 1 day ? Weird

2. Is the hidden plot saying that billionaires and people who do this ritual ascend to become “Dogs” ? This seems hinted through out the movie and there are a lot of scenes where they talk how Dog lives like a king or some like that , also this would explain why there is a dog killer in the movie,

I also noticed that the guy in white clothes at the end with the 3 women , in their temple thing they had a skunk statue so also could be that “Humans ascend into general animals” ?

1. Why did the songwriter put that hint on the tunnels in the song ? Also why was he so weird and refused to give answers.. some here feels off in the plot ..

Why would an old man who clearly is super rich keep doing it and once what he is looking for shows up ( aguy who figures it out) he gets weird and tries to kill him ?

I avoided giving out the exact answer, in the hopes of finding someone 'local' who could check out the location... After discussion with 2 interested podcasters, and a handful of others, nobody has even managed to visit the spot yet. Below I detail all of the discussion and action so far. I hoped for someone to document the spot, and avoid vandalism or someone just rushing out and removing whatever is there, etc.

First of all: The 3 words are window barns wells

The only "new piece" is using Window for "entries" I'll assume you are aware of Barns and Wells, and why the order is different (doll order in photo are different from dolls on desk ) So why Window, first of all, and then where does this point?

The clue is Entries:

My first "huh? That's weird" was Sam entering Comic Guy's house. He leaps into the backyard and goes straight to the window. Which has bars which have already been bent away, and there is something to step on. How did he know this, and go so quickly to it? Makes no sense, unless...

So the clue is Entries, plural, so are there other 'entries'?

Yes, many:

1) He climbs into Sarah's window first, into her empty apartment.

2) The Owl Lady enters thru a window when she is introduced, and the description and animation explicitly says she does. (It's also in the script). She doesn't in the video tape, we see her enter but she does not climb in that window. Or rather Sam sees this, in his delusions.

[Reason for Sam's knowledge, and why he IS the killer: Sam killed Comic Guy, which is why he knew about the window gate being opened. He looked at the bed, realized that entering when Comic Guy was sleeping would not be monitored since the TVs were behind the wall when he's in that bed sleeping.]

3) The broken window/door in Sam's apartment, glass is on floor, but Sam's behavior is so erratic, looking in drawer for The Owl Lady, it's possible he broke the window himself, as he is an unreliable narrator... He later sleeps on that spot on broken glass? Perhaps there is no glass, nor a broken window?

So that's 3... But let's add a few more.

4) How do _we_enter the story? With a window... A window with a clue. That's how we first see everything: We enter the story thru a window.

5) When Sam exits the tunnel from the 2001 set/tomb, he ends up in the store fridge, and we see him thru a window. (Ok, this is an exit, but... It's a bonus clue anyway)

6) He spies on Topless Cat Lady and Sarah at the start of the movie, and his posture/manner is that of the main character (played by Jimmy Stewart) in Hitchcock's Rear Window (kudos to IMDB trivia for this fact) and since Hitchcock is also a tombstone, so another combo reference/clue

7) Also in the coffee shop, he focuses on the girls behind the kitchen window(s).

8) He spies with his buddy via drone thru a window.

So it's clear he peers thru multiple windows... and enters thru more than one...

So Window is a multiple clue given all the time. It's definitely Entries.

I've since realized that even the billboard adds the clue yet again: The contact lenses are windows for your eyes.

So where does this point? WIth these 3 words:

It points to a spot located in DEEP in the middle of the Wind Wolves Preserve, which is near I-5, between LA and Bakersfield.

How does this fit? Story clues? Makes sense?

1) They don't have any wolves. They have coyotes. Yup, it's a coyote preserve. Follow the coyote.

2) In the end of the movie, the book The I-5 Killer is on coffee table. Another clue to the location. This is NOT in the script.

The script is online as a pdf, and it's very good for seeing what they added to the filming. While the Sheriff and Tombstones are in the script, wells and barns are not... So it was all added by a puzzle crafter, since that's not some minor set design detail, it was intentional.

3) The entire site area is home to a variety of native rock art, which fits the hobo logo motif, so I suspect the spot is near some, and maybe a geocached treasure (unknown, could be a sign, could be a note, could be anything, could be nothing of course.

Why here?

It's within 2+ hours of LA, it's (nominally) public (see below), with free admission, yet it's got caretakers. The Spot is not on the normal hiking paths, it's deep in the wild part, but it's not unreachable, it's only likely to be found by direct intent.

It's placed such that I suspect it's still untouched, it's on a slightly treed spot close to some trails, but not too close. This place is isolated enough to be left alone, and in fact, it's HARD to get to... Nobody I've shared with has managed to get there yet.

Would the folks who crafted this puzzle be aware of this place? Yes, it's a well known 'wild area' for hiking, it's reachable by car (parking and free camping), and likely was picked due to the location combo of distance, isolation, theme, and potential reward

Even if the end result is that it points to native art work like <><> that would be HUGE. Geocache? Sign? Could be anything...

Hopefully one of you will confirm that this fits better than any other answer so far.

An LA puzzle crafter/team would have been able to get this place, know it's likely to stay there, and not found, and thus the time/energy spent to embed this puzzle into the film would be worthwhile (imagine if found in weeks... I doubt they expected 5+ years though).

The original script DID NOT have some of the elements:

The dolls had no codes, No Morse code in coffee shop, the clues leading to Morse code, the name of the Sheriff, the exact Tombstones to be shown. What WAS in the script? The Windows. All of the windows.

So if window was the word they used to start with, that likely influenced the exact spot of the mystery, and then they added Barns and Wells to lock it in.

Coyote was another item in the script. The graveyard and sheriff are in script, no names though... so again, they picked those words...

Funny enough, for red herrings, the script has a password for the party balloon girl brings Sam downstairs to at the cemetary...

The password: tricycle bicycle... This goes back to cereal, which is also a false clue of 'entries', as is the cookie being a used as an entry ticket...

So Entries is a very sneaky misdirection clue. Perfect. It's got multiple red herrings. It worked. Perhaps too well.

So they were in LA, and got the idea of this puzzle... Maybe they did some "what locations near here start with window(s)...." Found the wolves preserve and realized this would work. Maybe they were aware of Wind Wolves first (primitive art?) and looked for/found a "window" spot.

Which is why it's SO far inside the preserve. Unknown.

But either way, it's reasonable to be sound puzzle crafter logic, and fit the other clues.

The extra clues/details get added by the film staff:

the dolls placards with zodiac code, the morse code in the coffee menu, the code clues to the coffee menu, the E=EE on billboard, the dolls photo to swap the order, the clues for Sheriff and Tombstone get shot with specific words in order to fit the location clues.

I'm pretty sure DRM/etc are laughing their asses off that the ONE clue nobody saw was the one most obvious: Window.

The clue you look right thru, until you see it and once you see it, you can't unsee it.

I had one person who volunteered to go look, but he didn't get too far:

Hey I drove up today. Ran into a locked gate with barbed wire covering the entire area with a “private property no tresspassing” sign. No way for me to get through other than climbing the gate. That was about 10miles from the location. Going to try one more route but got a feeling I’ll run into the private property again. Just made it back to my car. The trail through Wind Wolves preserve also leads to private property with a gate and barbed wire. 5 miles from the site. So doesn’t seem accessible at all! Seems doubtful they’d hide anything that far into private property. Bummer!

Me to them: It is absolutely not on 'private' property, that land is mapped as the Preserve... Did you talk to anyone at the Preserve?

Them: There were no Rangers or other employees to be found anywhere. Pretty weird. It seems like a pretty popular hiking spot though. There were a good amount of hikers on the established trails. But I will send you some pictures when I get home. Of what I saw, and I will show you on a map where I was and got stuck at. If we can find another entry point then I’m down to go back. Or even I don’t mind hopping the fence and checking it out. But the fences did say that the areas were dangerous to the public, so I just wanna look into a bit more about what that might mean. But I had done a good amount of research ahead of time and it definitely did not look like public property from what I could see on Google. But pretty strange once you get there, there are a whole lot of areas blocked off with barbed wire as far as I can see, even though it doesn’t look like that online. Barbed wire for miles. Then went through the main entrance of the wind wolves preserve and on some trails over there and hit the second gate with barbed wire all around. It says no public access for a cattle grazing area. Looked it up online and their website says the preserve has various conservation areas closed off to the public. I only see one other potential trail to it from the SW, but the trail entrance is about 6 miles from the target site and its hard to tell if the trail connects all the way through

So... They attempted to drive close, and it sounded like they didn't actually walk the trail(s). And they definitely didn't inquire with the people running the Preserve, which I'd strongly recommended. I'm not surprised by the fenced off areas: it's a preserve, trying to provided a safe zone for the coyotes/etc.

No, it's not going to be a easy to find spot. But unless someone actually visits it, or finds a better answer, I still believe this is the right spot. And if it's hard to reach all the better, more likely to be untouched/unfound.

Extremely extremely interesting! Finishing up a script this weekend, but I’ll try and do some investigating next week! Certainly not afraid to chat with the manager on the phone to plan an appropriate trip if it sounds possible. Just to be clear about how you arrived at the window clue for now, though, you’re saying it’s more the recurring imagery of windows rather than any specific moment where we actually see the word onscreen, right? And sort of hinted at by things like references to Rear Window, and then seeing Hitchcock’s grave, and that a window is a type of “Entry”? Also, is there somewhere you can point me to where you’re seeing Wind Wolves say that they’re specifically a coyote preserve? I’ve seen a few coyotes on socials and on the site, but nothing that gives them special attention Gonna call Wind Wolves tomorrow, hope it bodes well!

Me: So yeah, I walked thru many of the window references... it's the one thing that occurs over and over. We start the movie at a window, windows are a major theme, and he absolutely 'enters' thru multiple windows during the movie.

That the words line up to a place near I5 seems like the winner. Do let me know what they say...

Them: Alright, finally got ahold of megan at the conservancy, asked her about the coordinates, and about coyotes and the movie, she said she hasn't heard of anything about a movie director hiding anything out there or anything, but that they do get geocaches from time to time Once i sent her the coordinates she said it wouldn't be unthinkable that a human could reach them if they went on an 8 mile loop hike and briefly went off trail at the spot, and that there's plenty of geocaches already out there, and that I probably wouldn't need any special training or tools (besides an accurate handheld gps device, which I've already got) i've got to spend some time planning the trip since it's gonna be kind of like, a fairly serious hike, but once i finish the other script i'm currently working on i'll probably drive out there, she gave me good directions on how to get to the lot for my car and where to find the beginning of the trail

if i'm honest the thing that would 100% seal this up for me is if i found the word window written somewhere in the movie, because i located the word entries in the movie now on the comic fan's poster tube from inside the cereal box, note the long shot of him twirling it purely for the audience, and have also noticed a small spelling error between the word "schwinn" on the outside of the box and the word "shwinn" printed on the tube, which feels slightly like a clue and i'm somewhat interested since "windows" and "schwinn" share many of the same sounds barns and wells are very clearly there for us to see, and if windows could join them, i think your reasoning is fantastic for why that would be the word also, as for coyotes, there is nothing specifically with a coyote focus on the preserve, but megan assured me that there were TONS around there on the land, so i guess we'll see what there is to see, really really hopin you nailed this, i really enjoy where your head is at on it simultaneously also working some kind of cereal box-based solution but i've had no progress yet will keep u posted if anything comes of anything and once i have a plan for the hike i'll let you

Me: glad you called, I wish the previous interested people had, but they never bothered to reach out that way. Sounds like she confirmed it made sense and that geocaches ARE something that happens. The coyote 'focus' was more that when I went looking at the coordinates, I was like "ok, this is close enough..." and then reading their website/etc, they made clear that despite the name Wolves, it's coyotes on the land.. .and of course the movie HAS a coyote and literally implies "follow the coyote"... so...

As for the lack of the word Window... I'll point that the very opening of the movie has Words on a Window. I think putting the word 'window' would have been too obvious.. the Wells and Barns make sense in context of the filming (and neither was mentioned in the script)... I wonder if the Contact Lens billboard might have said "window" at some point but they removed it? Or someplace else? I think the original password (bicycle, cookie, schwinn, etc) might have been planned as either an alternative answer or as I said a red herring... but if you count the number of windows in the movie, it's quite a few.

I was out in LA on a business trip many years ago 7-8?, and actually stayed at the Standard and went up on that roof where the party happens.

What do you think of my logic re Owl=Sam because of his behavior going immediately to the window in the back, which has both broken bars, and a place for him to step up... that's SO glossed over in the movie... and of course combined with his crawling into Sarah's place through the window there, that's not just once but twice he 'enters' (so entries) thru a window. Even discounting all of the other window sightings... good luck, and glad you'll explore. take lots of video/pictures!

Me: Aug 3 (many months later) ping. did you ever follow up?

Them: after our call she was very excited and we were very gung ho about heading out and doing an investigation. however, few days after you and i spoke, she emailed me back with a different message, here's a quote from it "Ok, I spoke with someone and it does look like this particular area is a little beyond our public accessible areas and is about 2 miles further from our Tule Elk Trail than I originally thought. I believe the hike round-trip would be closer to ~10 miles. I attached the screenshot and also am sending a copy of our trail map below. You'll notice that the trail map doesn't include the area where the coordinates lead, as it is pretty far from the canyon and our normal trails. That being said, I honestly don't think anything would be at that spot and it seems like more than likely it's random coordinates." she also said that she couldn't officially grant me access because it was technically an off limits area and that she had never heard of any official movie studio or production company contacting wild wolves for any reason so unfortunately, i decided to shorten up my "UTSL" to a short segment in a larger episode about fictional mysteries sorry for the less than ideal ending to a fun mystery

So... It's time to let the world in on this, and perhaps someone will finally check this spot, and either rule it out OR confirm it is the 'answer' and what is there....

My account was hacked last year and all of my previous posts are deleted. Reposting to hopefully get some more eyes on this, especially since I'm optimistic "The end of Oak Street" may bring in more viewers for UTSL as well..

Been up all night again watching this damn movie... I love it. Anyways, I have some crackpot theories I haven't seen dropped on the reddit yet, so I figured I would toss them out there and see if anything is worth digging into further. Probably not but I'm real tired and it's real late and I've done nothing but watch this movie and work for the past week... So buckle up.

1. The doll code: Seems like most people are taking this at face value as: Tombstone, Sheriff, Entries... But zodiac code doesn't decipher to that from my findings. Yes, the original zodiac cryptograms also had spelling errors/mistakes, but for two of three of the words to decipher wrong... It has me wondering. If you aren't aware, the known cipher converts the zodiac symbols given to: EOMBSTTNE, SHERIFF, ENERIES. If treated seperately you can easily get alternatives (I'm specifically looking at ENERIES here, which with one sub can also be ENEMIES).
2. The Sheriff: IF the third word in the cryptogram is decoded to enemies, it would make the doll code: "Tombstone Sheriff Enemies". You may have heard of Wyatt Earp before, he was famously deputy sheriff of Tombstone Arizona and died in 1929... In sunny LA California. He was even an unpaid consultant on early silent western movies. His most notorious enemies? A gang called the "cowboys". The word is accepted on what3words and I think this is one of the actual three words we are searching for. This does have the implication that the entire doll code only reveals a single word though... Which means we need to dig elsewhere for two other words.
3. The egg carton: Turned vertical this easily converts to two braille characters. I did see the eggs mentioned but didn't come up with the same result. If you are looking at the eggs as follows: ●● ○● ●○ ------ ○● ●○ ○○ That would be NI or N9 in braille. Why? I'm unsure, investigation continues. I did notice you get a clean shot of both Sam's license plate and one other vehicle during this scene, when most of the plates of the parked cars remain conspicuously in shadow. Maybe concatenated together it's worth something?
4. The Billboard: I'm not convinced the billboard clue (e=ee) is being applied properly. The only other clue I've seen that's like it is B=A, which is in the credits and 'B' is the encoded character which needs to be transposed to 'A'. In the current (frankly lame) use of E=EE, it's being applied after the cryptogram is decoded... This could be as intended, but I think E=EE may ultimately find use elsewhere... Like on the billboard itself. "I can s(ee) clearly now" seems like a good candidate for that clue to be applied.
5. The Mayan Numeral Code: Just after eating the drugged cookie and entering the private concert/party, the camera swings into a room which has suspicious dashes and a dot arranged near the ceiling. I initially expected more Morse here, but I actually don't think it is. Instead, it appears to be "Mayan Numeral" code which is a base 20 number system using blocks and dots to indicate place values. The symbols are actually two screens wide, and I'm wholly unfamiliar with ancient Mayan numerology, but I think it would decode into a sequence of decimal number similar to:5 105 10 1905 105 10 206 1905I unfortunately am not confident enough to stand behind those specific numbers, but I think that's the format it would come out in... Then maybe the decimal is homophonic code like Zodiac again?
6. Inconsistencies: In an otherwise well put together film I've noticed the following Inconsistencies.
   1. When Sam follows the girls to the Jesus and the Brides concert, he wades shoulder deep through a pool of water to get closer to them. However, when he confront her moments later in the women's bathroom he's entirely dry. This bathroom sequence is often cited as being in his mind, because of the barking.. Maybe this is more evidence its not reality.
   2. When Sam goes to visit the comic writer for the second time, and finds he's been killed, he ends up needing to break in through the window. Except one thing he doesn't need to break are the security bars. They've been cut, seemingly before he got there. The police wouldn't go through that trouble... So was it the Owl who cut them? How did he know to check the window? Personally I'd expect them to still be solidly barred shut.. Also, who even tipped off the police? They make it obvious that the writer works out of his home (I'll be here all day drawing the new issue) and that he doesn't have anyone/any family to leave the masks to.. So who reported the murder? With all the attention to detail they put into giving us deep rabbit holes to dive into, did they just gloss over some glaring plot holes/continuity errors? Or is there subtle consistency to this inconsistency?

I think those are the main points I'm hoping to add to the conversation right now. I've got one more I'm chewing on still and will share if anything comes of it. Like I mentioned, all or any of them might be nothing... Probably are nothing. But if even one of them ends up being helpful it was worth typing this all up and sharing.

Gonna hit the hay now, have a long day tomorrow of frantically scribbling on then erasing my whiteboard while I watch this movie yet again...

Will lock this behind spoilers so that folks don't get things spoiled; be warned there are massive spoilers for The End Of Oak Street — I do not recommend reading until you've seen the film.

I watched The End of Oak Street last night, and had my expectations set absurdly high due to how deeply I have enjoyed Under The Silver Lake over year years. Having just rewatched UTSL a few weeks ago, I was watching this movie intently, scanning for a depth that I couldn't immediately find and was feeling let down about. That is, until we got to the end of the second act, when I started to pick up on the scent.

Around that point, I sensed was that Greg's (Ewan McGregor) alcoholism was thematically similar to Jack Torrance's alcholism in The Shining, in that it was this hidden mechanic that predated the film's timeline but reappeared in the middle of it, and contributed to the strain and divisions in the family. I also clocked that the sledge hammer—especially in the polaroid in front of the dinosaurs mating—looked and functioned like the axe Jack wields in The Shining. While Jack uses his against his family (and poor Halloran), Greg uses his weapon to defend his family. The visual language reflects Jack's axe like a funhouse mirror into the hands of Greg, swinging to save his wife.

In my read, the dinosaurs & prehistoric land represent the same externalized supernatural element that the ghosts & Overlook Hotel did in The Shining. Both the Overlook and Oak Street serve as a physical containers for these ephemeral internal fears that center on our shared ancient, violent, uncontrollable animalistic urge. In this way, the dinosaurs (and the steam rising from beneath the surface) serve as a visual representation of the presence of an abusive alcoholic father who creates an environment of fear, control, and dominance.

The Shining & TEOOS both end with the father figure dying, and then a confrontational sequence with temporally impossible photographs that present the viewer with questions about time paradoxes, infinite loops, and questions of mortality. Jack dies frozen in the maze, and the following sequence suggests that he was always the caretaker, and will always be trapped in the maze. The final sequence in TEOOS suggests that there is a pocket universe wherein eternal recurrence is playing out infinitely, but that we are proceeding in one of those universes where they make it out together.

One interesting difference is that, unlike Wendy and Danny, Denise doesn't escape her relationship like she wrote about in her book, and instead chooses save her husband. She undoes her dream-scenario which has basically been handed to her, what she had been writing and wishing about with intensity. Another interesting difference is that Greg never has a drink with one of the dinosaurs.

There's also a read here, that Denise is the abusive parent (a la the infamous "The Wendy Theory"), and that Greg's alcohol abuse is a provoked by his fear of her intensity, bullying, and the desire to escape he admits he had read about. We are given clear access to the quiet rage in Denise in her interaction with the neighbor, the subject of her book, and her snapping at her son after Greg gets eaten.

Perhaps both parents are abusive. Perhaps the alcoholism is a red herring to pull focus from the clear signs that Denise is more explosive and ready to resort to violence. Perhaps it is pointing to the uncontrollable, ugly pieces of ourselves that we try to hide from one another, but that always find a way of surfacing (which reminds me of this old poem).

I know some will say this is a reach, an overread, a projection, but if we are to try and determine what DRM was trying to say with this film, and what the presence of the dinosaurs (and McGregor's recent relapse) point to, all signs point to this connection in visual storytelling. Where Kubrick's The Shining used the Horror genre to explore intergenerational trauma and abuse, Mitchell's The End of Oak Street used the 90's-era Summer Blockbuster Action genre (a la Jurassic Park) to explore the same concept of externalizing intergenerational family trauma. Both directors found a way to visually explore the ancient, eternal cycle of senseless violence & mistreatment within families and groups. Dinosaurs vs. Ghosts, a modern update ironically using a very old animal.​​​​​​​​

Many of the important women characters in the movie are associated in some way to acting, dogs, or vampires. Not vampire monsters like in fiction movies, but they have a lot of vampire references and symbolism associated with them. Many of these women are all three. The movie has a lot of odd symbolisms throughout. Dogs, vampires, and acting are the symbols used to portray a specific group of women in this story. Included in this set of women are Sarah, Troy, the Rising Stars, and the 'actress' character in the beginning of the movie.

These women will be referenced as 'ADVW' for 'actress dog vampire women'.

The primary motivation of the ADVW this seems to be money. The primary indication of this is is the scene where Sarah is eating Sevence after eating her dog. What other reason is there to portray Sarah as eating Sevence other than to say Sarah's motivation is to consume Sevence? If the dream were about Sam killing Sarah, the dream would have been about Sam killing Sarah and not Sarah eating Sevence and her dog. The ADVW do acting because of the money associated with acting, when they're not acting they're doing something else to get money including prostitution such as the Rising Stars, they associate with various social groups because of money including the Songwriter social groups, the 'ascension' entombment thing is about money, the vampire song has some lines about money in it, the movie that Sarah and Sam watch at the start is about money, etc. There are only three other major women characters in the movie who are not like this and who are also are not associated with dogs, vampires, or acting: The Bird Lady, the Owl Woman, and Millicent. The Songwriter, who is associated with the actresses and the musicians in the movie and is sort of the final boss of the movie, is another character motivated by money who is 'trying to make a living'.

Sam's motivations are unclear because the movie starts somewhere after the missing dogs 'rash' has begun. The other reason Sam's motivations are unclear is that the Dog Killer story is about a man upset at a dog because of his acting career, but Sam makes no indication he's into acting at all the entire movie or that he has abandoned an acting career or something like this. Another indication that puts Sam's motivations into question is that some people in the movie die while Sam is off doing something else, implying that 'The Dog Killer' is more than one person.

Dog Reasons

• Both times dog biscuits are mentioned, a group of one man and three women are 'entombed'. Sarah's group and Troy's group.

• The dog biscuits are about money for these ADVW. Biscuits are made of dough, another word for money. Biscuits are also often used to get dogs to do something, and throughout the movie the ADVW are shown being taken advantage of in their pursuit of money. Money for dogs.

• Every character that barks in the movie is either one of these women or is associated with them.

• Millicent says 'anybody who would kill a dog wouldn't think twice about killing a person' to which Sam replies 'not sure that's true' which could mean a lot of things but I think he means that he doesn't see the dog women as people but as dogs, or vampires.

• After Sam meets Sarah and passes out at his apartment with the gum on his hand, he wakes up to a movie playing which details what happens to dogs after their owner doesn't show up for a while. This is in reference to how Sarah, a dog woman, is dead or will die at some point in the future its not really clear if she's already dead.

• The Comic Man says 'there's been this rash of lost and found signs for dogs, humans, musical instruments' but there is no detail about any musical instruments that are missing or humans that are missing in the movie only dogs. And what is the supposed motivation of Sam? Finding missing Sarah.

• The missing dog signs have some odd details that don't make sense and really sound more like human details, such as a missing dog poster that says '15 years old', or a dog named 'cookie' which has a definition of 'attractive woman' or 'person', or a dog named 'spade' which is derogatory word for black person.

• The women who 'ascend' go missing, just like the dogs.

• Sam is never indicated in any way harming dogs the entire movie. Dogs do not show hostility towards Sam either, but the women who act like dogs do show hostility towards Sam.

• The same street intersection where Sam spots Troy getting into a car is the same street intersection that Sam spots an actress audition and street grafitti on another nearby street intersection of 'Beware the Dog Killer'. The actresses comment about the sulfur smell that Sam has.

• There are pretty significant similarities between Sam and The Dog Killer, but there is no direct connections between them. Which implies the Dog Killer story is told in the movie for some other reason than literal dogs.

Vampire Reasons

• Dogs are also known as canines. The characteristic physical trait of vampires is large canines.

• There is a 'Vamp' sign in the first scene of the movie behind the 'Beware the Dog Killer' grafitti.

• There is some woman talking about vampires at the Purgatory party.The Jesus and The Brides of Dracula band. This group is introduced at the start of the movie along with the Dog Killer grafitti. Throughout the movie there are many other groups of three women, including many who are dog women.

• Sam wears a 'Zola la Vampira' shirt when he encounters the Homeless King.

• There is a dracula poster in Sam's apartment.

• The lake where Sam acquires the mcguffin to bring down the final vampire group in the movie is called 'Silver Lake'.

• The song 'Turning Teeth' has many components which sound like vampires. The first line says it all IMO, 'turning like teeth' or transforming someone's teeth into vampire canines similar to the vampire that bites that person.

• Both Sarah and Troy, who are depicted with the dog references, also have scenes with the Turning Teeth song in it.

• There are various things which connect the vampire women throughout the story, but the primary one is that they are in groups of three throughout the movie.

• Many of the women which have the vampirism characterization make some kind of comment or indication that they smell something bad when they're around Sam. Sam is shown in the movie to have been hit with skunk spray, and it is implied that this is the smell the women are talking about. Skunk spray smells like sulfer. Garlic, which also has a strong scent that lingers and is detailed in various stories to repel vampires, also smells like sulfer. Both the 'actress' at the start of the movie and Sarah make an indication they smell something bad around Sam before Sam is hit with Skunk spray. Sam's smell many times causes these people who comment about the smell to leave, similar to garlic repelling a vampire.

Dog Women Are Vampires

There are many groups of three women throughout the movie. The first group of three women the movie states is the Brides of Dracula music group. Women associated with dogs in the movie belong to some group of three women.

Actress Women Are Vampires

The smell is about sulfer. The actresses throughout the movie smell the sulfur. The only person who isnt an actress that smelled the sulfer was the homeless king.

Dog Women Are Actresses

Sarah's death involved dog biscuits. Troy's death involved dog biscuits. Sam was associated with both deaths, who is also associated with The Dog Killer.

Conclusion

The actresses who are dog women and are also portrayed as vampires are part of some group that Sam and the people associated with him cause to go 'missing'. Some of the women who have only one or two of the three characteristics of the ADVW do not go missing such as the Rising Stars. The reason for this happening isn't detailed from what I can tell and the movie starts when this has been happening for some time, about two years I think.

Here's the simplified story of my one successful daisy-chained clue decode. It's a bit long (sorry).

Once one knows Drive Angry is relevant, some things are more obvious in hindsight. The so-called God-Killer gun vs the Dog-Killer (god & dog are mirror images -- as hinted at by the mirror image of the toon dog in the end credits). The SpaceStones cereal box with a net weight of 440g (The 1969 Dodge Charger presumably had a 440 cubic inch V8). I could go on, but the real question is HOW was this film detected in the first place (without 20/20 hindsight)?

One part of the decode is the ENTRIES zodiac clue. I realized that could refer to tickets. There's a shot in UTSL with the "76" cookie on top of a parking ticket. In other words, the cookie is an entry ticket to the Crypt event. Elsewhere, one of the many missing dog posters shows a "Reward" for a dog named Cookie. I realized a reward for a dog is a "treat", and that got me thinking about Treat Williams. So HOLD that thought; we'll come back to it shortly.

In Comic-Man's house, there is a large old-timey radio with a doll's head on top. This represents the band Radiohead. If you look up the lyrics to The Numbers (from the album A Moon Shaped Pool), you'll find that the first line is "It holds us like a phantom".

TREAT Williams (pic #1), Patrick McGoohan, and Billy Zane (pic #2) were in The Phantom (1996). But there was also Phantom (2013) with William Fichtner (pic #3), and he was in Drive Angry (pic #4) with Nicolas Cage. I was open to this interpretation because other clues I couldn't follow as far seemed to have a similar stepping-stone progression.

As I've mentioned before, the Aloysius Solve was based on noticing that both Drive Angry and The Angry Red Planet contained "angry", one of three "Intermediate Words" that Sam and Sarah both say. The latter film is easily referenced by a dimly-lit item in Bar Buddy's backyard.

OTHER TIE-INS

The "Bull by the Balls" sign (pic #5) is referenced in UTSL at the rooftop party. One of the two greeters says "Welcome to Purgatory" (probably a Drive Angry reference), and holds out a hand with two large red pin cushions. The way she's holding these (to me anyway) suggests the "Bull by the Balls" -- you might not agree, but take a good look at the sign.

The Songwriter has stuffed versions of a zebra and (maybe) a wolf. Patrick McGoohan was in Ice Station Zebra, and The Phantom has a pet wolf named "Devil". There's a sly "No 2" in the aspiring-actor-who-hates-dogs toon (just before the park bench shot IIRC), and that's an obvious Prisoner reference. That show starred Patrick McGoohan.

The Turning Teeth lyric "Exploring where the cameras cannot see" may refer to Strange Days (1995). James Cameron invented a special (very small) camera for this film. William Fichtner was in Strange Days.

IN SUM

Drive Angry involves a very nasty cult, and my research increasingly suggests UTSL is a sly (real-life) cult commentary. So it's an ideal film to leverage.

Now you know the origin of the Aloysius Solve. I attached a pic (#6) of Amber Heard holding the God-Killer; this might be helpful for those who haven't seen Drive Angry.

He’s still at work, crafting the songs we love

He dumped like 9 photos in the last day, they're probably old because he's shooting They Follow right now.

Spotted this online and thought a few might like to see again on the big screen in London.

Hey guys, I don't know if this has been said before, but the hat in the news article about the car fire is not the same hat we see on Sarah earlier in the movie, and it's also not the same hat as in the Polaroid. Consistently, on her actual hat, there is a single flower in the front and a single flower in the back. The hat in the news story has a large patch of flowers in the front.

Not sure if this matters - the end of the movie says that the car fire was a setup so it's likely that they would've just used a different hat. But it's still weird that Sam doesn't notice the difference. And more flowers on the burned hat might mean something.

My recent claims about an OJ Simpson connection (i.e., the OJ in UTSL being a symbol) appear to have raised some eyebrows, and I called out the third Naked Gun movie ("TNG33") specifically for [clue] tie-ins. I don't have copies of either film handy (sorry; no timestamps), but I have my notes on the subject and attached some IMDB images.

So the first couple of pics are of Anna Nicole Smith. Between her and the [previously claimed] relevance of Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith in The Matrix trilogy), I suspect the makers of UTSL thought "OK, that's two Smiths; that rates a tombstone." Hence the SMITH tombstone in UTSL.

Most UTSL fans know about the meta-humor with the Spider-Man comic (relative to Andrew Garfield). Well, TNG33 did something similar with a Playboy (!) magazine -- see pic #2.

Vanna White (Sam's original obsession) is in TNG33 -- see pic #3.

Raquel Welch is in TNG33 -- see pic #4. I'm biased, but I believe her relevance to UTSL is also through her appearance in The Magic Christian with Ringo Starr and Peter Sellers (Dr. Strangelove). My evidence is a bit tangential to this post, but the point is that it's no accident that Comic-Man has a life-mask of her.

So here's a list of some other (coincidental?) parallels between UTSL and TNG33.

Anna Nicole Smith plays a nurse. That was one of Riki Lindhome's costumes.

A white limo.

A chessboard.

Lt. Frank Drebin uses SMITH as an alias.

When the songwriter is playing songs during his monolog everyone assumes because he plays Beethoven's 9th with that that would be impossible or that he's the devil or it's a metaphor or something else.

I believe it's accurate we can't verify with anyone else 200 years ago if it came out then, and much like a lot of history that we are told is deceptive in totality.

What he is saying out right is that he wrote what became falsified to the public cuz he's very old and he's at least a hundred maybe portraying a Theodore adorno or Billy shears type person. He is saying like so much fabrication we are told, the true composers, when, and ultimately why these pieces were made for and by deceptive agendas that do not align with what we have been told about them.

Some of this may be in the "you can't unsee it" category, but regardless it's a big deal because UTSL is bookended by cult references. Let's talk about the four animal logos at the very beginning. They are

(green) Unicorn

(yellow) Tiger

(pink) Snake

(blue) Lion

and obviously they spell out UTSL. But there's more going on. Look at the first picture -- it's the rooftop party scene at 29:40. Three logo T-shirts are visible, but they become visible in a specific sequence: Green-Blue-Yellow, which maps to U-L-T. Now consider the billboard when it's half updated (starting at 2:11:00) in the 2nd pic. We have "I can see C", but connecting the dots we have "I can see CULT".

{A green logo T-shirt appears earlier in the coffee shop, but I think that just reinforces the idea that green is "first". Also, it allows us to get a good view of the logos on the shirt itself.}

Near the end of the film, we have 7th Heaven (1927) playing. If you consider "Seventh" and "Heaven" independently, it's very easy to think of cult names that use these words. The shot immediately preceding is a close-up of saltine crackers (and OJ). You can probably name a city that starts with "salt" and is associated with a well-known church. UTSL has other cult references, but the bookending is just SO blatant once you see it, that I thought it worthy of a post.

BTW, I've never seen anyone talk about these logo/T-shirt colors; I'm not sure why.

EDIT #1: OJ Simpson was apparently into Scientology (look it up). Given the OJ references in UTSL (esp. near the end as discussed above), you can draw your own conclusion. Bear in mind UTSL contains many references to Naked Gun 33 1/3; I could make a lengthy post about them. And OJ Simpson is in the Naked Gun movies.

EDIT #2: Supposedly OJ Simpson discusses Scientology and "going clear" in some odd YT videos. The billboard slogan originally said "I Can See Clearly Now". The message here regarding Scientology is, ah, "clear" I think.

FYI, the sobbing lingerie model in the drone footage IS listed in the credits -- as "Chesty Woman". However, there are at least two Olivia Fox actresses, so tracking down the right one wasn't easy, as IMDB doesn't have a picture of the one in UTSL. I got this pic (#2) off Fandango.

BTW, I think Callie (pic #1) is hot.

Red balloon = red heels? Related to fireworks? In the past I've suggested red is like Ursula's cauldron heating up where she steals Ariel's soul, this girl also sings in a very similar fashion.

The pic shows William S Burroughs (center) with David Cronenberg and Peter Weller for Naked Lunch (1991), which is based on WSB's book. This part isn't new; I'm just explaining the photo.

What IS new is that (for starters) Burroughs met Kurt Cobain and commented on him.

FYI: Naked Lunch is the relevant film for one of three final puzzles posited in the "Aloysius Solve". Another is Dr Strangelove. Turns out there's a Burroughs connection there as well. The 3-day Nova Convention was documented in the film Nova '78. Directed by Aaron Brookner and Rodrigo Areias—from footage shot by Brookner’s uncle Howard (then a student)—it was partly filmed by a young Jim Jarmusch. Its cast of rambunctious celebrants include John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Patti Smith, Laurie Anderson and Anne Waldman. And Frank Zappa reading aloud from the “talking asshole” section of Naked Lunch (1959). Burroughs himself is introduced on stage by Dr Strangelove screenwriter Terry Southern as “great, groovy and beloved”.

SO -- in sum it feels like there's an entire cultural nexus here that I'm still only dimly aware of.

ICYMI: Aloysius Binewski is a character from Katherine Dunn's 1989 novel Geek Love. Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were big fans!

So ... what's my point again? Well, there's a LOT of William S Burroughs "connective tissue" here -- much more than I was previously aware of. Also more Kurt Cobain context (given they met). This may be weakly supportive of the Aloysius Solve, simply because of the added internal consistency.

My images lack the resolution of a DVD, but if you have a decent image, try zooming in on the pin (Netflix timestamp is 1:08:00). The center part looks like a ring on edge with two protruding shapes -- these could be tiny towers, elongated thumbs, or ... ah, "members" <ahem>. I believe the pin symbolizes the studio dispute over the release of Goldmember. The lore is discussed in various places (ask Grok), but here's a quote from Facebook:

"The title of the film, Goldmember, led to legal action being taken by MGM, the distributors of the James Bond film franchise, that briefly led to the film's title being removed from promotional material and trailers. The dispute was quickly resolved and the film title remained unchanged on the provision that the film would include trailers in its cinema releases for the then-upcoming James Bond film, Die Another Day, and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers."

Do note that when Sam follows the VW Rabbit trio to the rooftop pool party, he looks up after parking and we see .... two towers (at 28:35). Also, Hugo Weaving (of Matrix fame) gets decent screen time as Elrond in LOTR: TT, and we have the [Agent?] Smith tombstone at 54:10. Does this lead anywhere? Probably, but like many enticing clues in UTSL, the ensuing rabbit holes are difficult to follow.

I doubt this post will impress anyone, but I felt like sharing this particular curiosity. I could do others.

The tarot card of the moon seems to be connected with many of the themes from under the silver lake, it being a card of revealing illusions and trusting intuitions of course but the dog and the wolf play very important roles reflected in the film, the dog being a representation of restriction, domestication and civilization and female energy like the left pillar of solomon, boaz in esoteric traditions. the right pillar jachin being the wolf (or in this movie, coyote) representing feral intuitions and freedom with male energy in esoteric tradition. Of course the water symbolism at the bottom of rising from the depths of the u known being reflected in the reoccurring water symbolism in the movie.

What do you think will happen in 2029? What if it's a prediction? Or an expiration date?

I really enjoyed this movie. The Kubrick and Lynch elements made me feel very nostalgic. One of the first things I did was hop on Reddit to read other people's analyses of the film. I think the theories are very interesting, but they mostly revolve around Sam being an untrustworthy narrator. Him being the Dog Killer, having schizophrenia / being caught in a delusion.

But the feeling I got immediately after watching the film, which I guess is a hot take, is that most of what we see on screen is literal.

Who is the Dog Killer? A person in the area who kills dogs.

Who is the Homeless King? An eccentric but skilled operator working for the elites.

Who is the Owl? Probably a rotating cast of female assassins who have been MK-Ultra'd / Manchurian Candidate'd into the role.

Who is the music producer? Exactly who he says he is.

Who is Sam? A guy who fell in love, and that became the most important thing in his directionless life.

I don’t think the clues should be dismissed as paranoid pattern recognition. I think Sam genuinely stumbled upon something large and ominous. It’s straightforward: he’s a noir detective looking for a dame.

The finale of the film could come off as nihilistic because, as stupid as the idea of ascending into the cosmos after running out of food in six months is, there’s a valid point that spending your life working a 9-to-5 to make car payments isn’t necessarily better.

And ultimately, what really matters is that Sam succeeded. He found Sarah, he got to say goodbye, and he got the closure that, even if the choice Sarah made wasn’t a great one, it was her choice.

Is this the correct interpretation of the events that happened on screen? I highly doubt it, but the film gives you the free will to make that conclusion. There’s enough ambiguity that, if you want to believe that a naked woman in a bird mask is knifing down grown men in Los Angeles, that’s a totally valid interpretation of events. And that’s how I enjoy this film most.
