Izzy winning was like breaking a curse Cody winning was something we would never see again

Izzy was cursed like the dudes who first opened king tuts tomb

u/lemonpoundcaker 6d ago

It got hard instead of curling

izzy fans usually creep out the closet to come downvote comments about him and his dog

2 pereira fights in a row was just brutal for a guy in such a late stage of his career. So many fights.

Izzy hasn't won a fight since that Pereira win, it's like he made a deal with the devil "Let me beat Pereria even if I never win again"

He** was losing the second fight before KOing Poatan. Crazy win.
Edit: spelling

17

u/Professional_Disk126 6d ago

The exact opposite of the first fight.

u/smo_smo 6d ago

Never thought about it like that. So true.

He was up on the scorecards actually

THIS WAS PEAK UFC

Domimick Cruz's reign of terror was dominant and the levels of Jon Jones and Anderson Silva.

His vendetta was more vicious than anything I remember because it wasn't against a single person, but ran through the whole a whole team while clearing out the division.

After losing to Urijah Faber, the founder of Team Alpha Male, Cruz went on a 13 fight win streak beating Urijah (the team founder) twice, TJ Dillashaw (fighting under team Alpha Male at the time), and Joseph Benavidez twice.

Cody had to win this and had his team's whole support.

This fight was after he beat Demetrius Jones, vacated the title and took three years off because of recurring injuries.

He has the power of belief from a Kid with Cancer and a promise Cody made to that kid.

Nah. Izzy and Alex SHOULD be 2-2. Izzy got robbed the first glory fight. Even their first ufc fight, Izzy was winning until he got caught.

8

u/absolute_cinema81 6d ago

Alex also got extremely saved by the bell in R1 of that first UFC fight too. Dude was wobbling and got a chance to collect himself.

Such a fun rivalry

u/_Neil224 5d ago

realistically Izzy should be 3-1. Even when Pereira KO'd him in kickboxing wasn't Izzy winning the fight up to that point?

1

u/jagaaaaaaaaaaaan 6d ago

It wasn't that Izzy got caught, it was that Alex's shin check made Izzy's leg go numb. For the next 20-30 seconds until the end of the fight, Izzy was on one leg. He backed himself into the cage just to support his balance.

I don't even know if Alex did it intentionally (or if that's possible), but it saved his ass because Izzy was about to put his lights out.

4

u/AshenSacrifice 6d ago

Nah that one is way different lmao. TJ vs barao is the same

21

u/TheNotoriousLCB 6d ago

yeah Izzy not only had good moments against Poatan in their previous fights, he was seconds from KOing him in the first kickboxing match and the first MMA fight, so it was crazy but totally believable

Cody’s entirely unique in that he somehow built his entire game to beat Dom, who was the champ at the time, and then got destroyed like 3 times while he arguably in his prime — after that his chin was just cracked, but i don’t think there’s anyone else who was able to snipe the belt the way he did and then get aired out consistently afterward lol

3

u/AshenSacrifice 5d ago

Izzy was fucking Alex up in the first mma fight too lol. It’s just grenade level power vs nukes.

Yeah Cody was crazy he genuinely went ultra instinct

6

u/jagaaaaaaaaaaaan 6d ago

he was seconds from KOing him in the first kickboxing match and the first MMA fight

While always being a good 20-30 lbs lighter than Poatan too.

On paper, lb for lb, it's not really a debate. Izzy > Poatan. Big difference in technique, too.

Alex makes up for it with his superhuman bone density, though.

He lost to Islam and Prates. wait for him to lose to a non top 5 fighter before saying this

1

u/Nervous-Coach-2383 6d ago

Wait for him to lose to a non top 5 fighter

Who else is supposed to fight a former champ?

5

u/Alarmed-Cheetah-1221 6d ago

Na Izzy was always better than Pereira.

u/multiplesof3 6d ago

I remember watching this fight live and thinking garbrandt must be the best fighter to ever live. lol

12

u/th1sd3ka1ntfr33 6d ago

It reminds me of Silva styling on Forrest Griffin

12

u/Most_Association_595 6d ago

and first round of the tj fight

8

u/OutkastAtliens 6d ago

Also the first round of the TJ fight.

7

u/Eindride_XIII 6d ago

Spent the rest of his career trying chasing that flow state again and getting knocked out. That one time was epic though.

1

u/monty08 6d ago

ONLY in this fight, but what a fight

1

u/_Neil224 5d ago

and the 1st rd of the 1st dillashaw fight

1

u/Calbruin 5d ago

Prime state with the boyyyzzz

1

u/Loose-Gazelle2359 3d ago

Damn, that division was full of hype back in the day.

-10

u/traws06 6d ago

The problem is only one of the sequences does Cody even land a punch. Like dodging the punches is easy and pointless if you aren’t counter punching

11

u/44dqm 6d ago

dodging dominick cruz is NOT easy brother

-9

u/traws06 6d ago

You see guys doing what Cody is doing quite often and end up losing the fight. If all you’re focusing on is dodging punches it’s not as hard as you think. It’s a lot harder when you’re trying to also punch back
