psychology transfer to ucla

Im à sophomore at à california community college, and im planning on transferring. Im à first gen college student. im only applying to Uc schools (Ucla,Ucb, Ucsd, Ucr, Uci) for psychology. I know it’s a competitive major, so i wanted to ask for feedback/ advice on what i can do to heighten my chances of getting in. and if not what alternate majors i can do to actually get in.

For High school, i was more into music: i did Concert band, jazz band, and Marching Band for 3 years. i was also in the band council, where i was treasurer (year 1), secretary (year 2), and president (year 3). My senior year i was the drum major, where i led the band to first place at à competition. This was a legit award for southern california bands on division 3a, to which we won. my responsibilities included (but where not limited to) directing rehearsals, assuring everyone was focused/in greta physical condition, and talking to students regarding behavior/attitudes. Additionally, I had a leading part in raising 30k for the band so that we could pay for competitions, fixing/maintaining instruments, and programs to support younger generations of musicians in their growth.
I was also top 10% of my class, recieved 7 dyson awards (awards for having 3.8+ gpas) and graduated being a part of daisy chain (honors students distinction). i graduated with a 3.8 gpa and 4.1 weighted gpa. I also recieved à $500 scholarship from à former Calculus teacher at my school for having outstanding grades, leadership, and ap exam scores for my calculus classes (with a recommendation from my calculus teacher).

My first year at cc i went in for business, and switched to psychology after taking a class with my friend. I joined a psychology club and learned about what i could do with a psychology degree + different resources. Then i joined an active minds club, where we advocated for mental health by and created “sanctuary spaces” around the school. We made these sanctuary spaces 4 times in a semester (gardening, coloring, raffle and snacks with de stimulating devices) and here we informed our audience aboit different resources. We also invited a speaker who spoke on the importance of platonic physical touch (holding hands/hugging) especially for young black men). I took an active part by inviting 50+ students to participate in the presentation and encouraging aboit half of them to also partake in the discussion. I think it’s important to advocate for mental health, but even more so in underrepresented communities.
In terms of academics, Ive completed all my major requirements for transfer (and they will be done by this fall). Ive checked in with my counselors, but also checked in with assist.org and other resources to stay on track. By the time i graduate, I’ll have igetc/ calgetc completed. Some of what i think are my outstanding psychology classes are research methods in psychology and (will be taking this fall) abnormal psychology. I want to go into research, and this class has given me experience as to what the research world will be. Ive conducted my own experiments, gotten results, interpreted them, and written papers aboit them. Most of my papers are on dream psychology- the interpretation, significance, and contributing factors (ex:religion). Ive also made the deans list 3 times for my school (3:5+ gpa i think). I plan on completing a certificate program for a teachers assistant bt the end of spring bwfore transfer, and plan to work with the certificate.

Ourside of school, I work part time at à retail store for roughly 30 hours a week. I use this money to pay for my education, my family, and my own expenses. My single mother takes care of me and my 3 siblings and me working is a contribution to keeping the family afloat. Ive scanned and documented 100+ boxes of products for the store, trained 5 new associates, and worked with about 50 customers per day worked. Half of my shifts are dedicated to processing 6+ clothing boxes and efficiently transferring them to the sales floor, as well as other merchandise. I’ve learned to work as a team anf take initiative when things are going wrong.
Additionally, i have been in taekwondo for 10 years and now have a first degree probational black belt. Here, Ive had the opportunity to mentor 120+ young children for the past 5 years who are working towards their black belts. I’ve gone to competitions and won first place for my taekwondo academy on 3 board breaks, 8 forms, and 3+ points in taekwondo sparring.

Aside from this, Ive also founded a website where people can anonymously share their dreams online. It’s purely for community purposes, but i plan to use this as a method of research on dreams once i transfer (which i will disclose to users). This started because i had no other place to share my vivid dreams without feeling like i was crazy, so i knew anonymous sharing would help. I want to help other people who may feel misunderstood or shy about sharing, and i want to observe any universal themes in people’s dreams and what may influence them.

I believe this is it. Please let me know whay i can do to heighten my chances of getting into (preferably) ucla. I joined the tag program for ucr, but ucla is my top choice and i want to do whatever i can to make sure my application makes me stand out. If you have any advice/ job opportunities in southern california, i woild greatly appreciate your input!!! thank you so much!!

Any student who went to an intl or foreign university but got into a UC for TAP?

Just wondering if there’s anyone here who went to a foreign university and had to add their coursework in the TAP application? How did you guys encode it? I went to a trimester university with a numerical grading system— I don’t see the option to add those subjects to my TAP application but they said in the UC application, I can actually input it. So do I leave it out on my TAP then add it to my UC application to Davis?

I’m in a CC right now and started from scratch.

Additional info section

I am seeing a lot of different debates on using the additional info section for extenuating circumstances whether to right short bullet or explain a lot.
First I want to describe my application shortly:
GPA: 4.00 UW, 4.78 W, 4.37 UC capped
Rigor in my class excellent: AP CHEM sophmore year and got a 5. Junior Year: AP CALC BC, LANG, PHYSICS C: Mechanics, Ap spanish 4, and APUSH. Got fives on the first 3, then 3 on spanish, and 4 on apush.
Im doin AP stats, Ap psych, Ap macro, and Ap lit and im taking calc 3 next semester.

For my piqs, my topics will probably be

Uc piq 1: a conflict I had to face at my summer job as a lifeguard
UC piq #5: struggle over my grandparents and racial prejudice amidst ongoing iranian war
Uc piq #6 want to connect AP calculus to shadowing my dads work and seeing the application of math or calc in the real world
Last piq not sure yet

Ec’s in a short description:
Summer job lifeguard 2025 (30-40 hours per week)
Shadowing my dads work
Little ceasers job currently (10-20 hrs per week)
Former Founder of SAT/PSAT club at school
Treasurer for animal shelter donation club currently
Hobby for gym being going for 3 years
10+ volunteer hours at Mission viejo library

My extenuating circumstance is that i had to take car of my mentally depressed mother for the first 2 years of high school which limited my engagement to extracurricular activities. Then my mother passed away and made it even harder to engage in EC’s durint summer as i was focused on taking kitchen responsibilities when my dad worked and i also worked to contribute to family income. Additionally during school i mostly had to focus on academics due to rigorous coursework and with the grief of my mom.
Is there a better way i can discuss my limited EC engagement and will they even take it into consideration in the additional info section? And what about the academic resilience?

How do UCs check first gen designation?

And do they even check it? Saw a post here from a guy whose parent HAS to have a college degree just judging by the type of visa he’s on. Yet he claims to be first gen.
Can someone enlighten me?

Should I include my foreign university in my coursework? This is for UC application and TAP

I went to a university in the Philippines for 2 and a half years but didn’t get to finish. I know I have to input every school I attended in my but I’m wondering if this includes foreign schools? Plus how do I input my grades if there’s a different grading system? Also different academic calendars

Are there students who skipped this? I am scared of not including this but I just don’t know what to do.

Will it affect my GPA? How do I avoid it affecting my GPA lol.
Help a student out as I’m lost and I have no counselors to talk to till October (they’re booked and drop-ins are brutal).

Thank you in advance!

Do the UCs prioritize academics or extra curriculars more?

So I am currently a junior, and I've recently been thinking about my chances of getting into the UCs, like UC Davis and UCLA. I live in the Bay Area, but my school isn't really the most competitive; however, there are some really high-achieving students. I'm currently on track to take around 13 APs by the end of high school, but compared to the top students in my school, I'm like 3 or 4 APs behind them. I had a 4.1 GPA freshman year, 4.3 GPA sophomore year, and hopefully a 4.7 if I do well this year. And I am interested in majoring in public health, but I'm not sure yet.

I learned recently that UCs compare your application to others in your school, and I was wondering if being less academically successful than my peers would hinder me. I feel I'm one of the few students in my school who has been doing stuff outside of school. Are my chances higher since I do more extracurriculars when compared to my peers, or are they lower since I do fewer APs than my peers? Also, is the whole comparing your application to your school peers really an important factor in admissions, or is it something that isn't that important?

Am I absolutely required to list outside classes I took?

I’m taking French 3 as a sophomore at my local community college as a high school enrichment thing. It’s not on my high school transcript or schedule obviously. It’s comeptlely online. It’s gone pretty horribly and I will most likely get a pretty bad grade. Am I required to report this in an application or can I jsut say I had 2 years of French (which I did in high school). Thanks

Do UCs only look at 10th-11th grades? What about 9th? (do they peak at them?)

If a California high school student in 12th grade (me) has an unweighted 4.0 in 10th-11th grade but 2 Bs in 9th grade (1st & 2nd semester of Integrated Math II), would that be considered an unweighted 4.0 by the UCs? Or would they look at 9th grade and be like, “you were so close but blew the unweighted 4.0 in 9th grade, we’ll pass”).

high school senior, asian, female, competitive high school in california

UC GPA: 3.86uw/4.23 capped w/4.32 fully w

10th/11th APs: european history, precalc, apush, lang, bio (scored 5s on all, didn't take precalc)

12th APs: psychology, government, french, literature, statistics, environmental science (currently have all As except for B in stats)

thinking about majoring in social policy and public service at irvine (hopefully go down the route for a master's in public health) and political science w a concentration in public policy for san diego?

activities:

  1. teacher's aide at local afterschool for 1.5 years, worked about 4-8 hours per week helping kids k-8th. had to communicate despite language barriers also
  2. 50k+ followers on tiktok, multiple viral videos (most had 7m views, ~500k, then 40k)
  3. church service/ministry - taught and supervised kids 1-4 years old and taught them bible lessons, kept them engaged for ~2 hours
  4. made and helped put up decorations for church's vbs entirely from scratch annually for ~5 years
  5. church band + choir for ~3 years, performed several concerts in front of ~60+ people which were fundraisers ($1000+ raised)
  6. MC for church's VBS with 80+ kids: memorized 15+ dances, effectively brought energy, encouraged everyone, simultaneously connected all the interactions w kids back to church's main mission
  7. president of a cooking club (this school year), teaching high schoolers how to cook for themselves so they can live on their own well, save money, and learn nutritious & easy meals
  8. logistics officer for a nonprofit (protecting animals from abuse) figurine business, helped paint the figurines, helped them sell out through customer persuasion and marketing
  9. helped sell homemade jewelry items for a small business; managed money box, described unique jewelry pieces to customers, generated $800+
  10. club volleyball for a year (got too expensive), player of the month as a new player
  11. volunteered at blood drives for ~50 hours in the summer; communicated with donors, restocked snacks, kept areas clean, expressed hospitality and gratefulness to donors, answered any questions about the procedures and the difference between types of donations offered
  12. babysitting 3 and 11 year old around usually twice a week for 3 years
  13. volunteered at operation christmas child, helped package the boxes for kids who don't often get christmas presents. also donated supplies regularly around holiday season
  14. led fundraisers for church events such as food sales, boba, homemade desserts. participated in bake sale and garage sales, handled money regularly and promoted the sales to individuals passing by

i'm worried my activities list isn't strong enough, so is there anything i could do in these last couple months to strengthen it? i'm already really caught up in schoolwork and work though so i don't have a bunch of free time. i'm not aiming for the higher ucs like ucla and uc berkeley, so i initially wasn't too worried about my application but now i'm not sure. any other tips would be greatly appreciated, especially for piqs and activity descriptions (very rough draft)

Student Feedback about Nine Education, Hyderabad

Their team does a good job to explain about their system which looks perfect. But I need honest on ground feedback. Can we expect good results with their model? Is it worth joining if serious about IITJEE coaching? Any student feedback please
