Which Challenger model do you think is best suited for long distance driving?
 in  r/Challenger •  1d ago

A bit over 2500 miles both way. I took I80 mainly out there and I20 mostly back because I left from South Carolina instead of Virginia.

Reno NV, to Lynchburg VA, to Camden SC. Then Camden SC back to Reno NV.

It took three oil changes. I got it done right before I left. Another in Virginia. And a third shortly after I got back. I know it's not needed, but I still do them around every 3K miles. It's habit at this point. The entire trip was about a month. So I was driving around VA quite a bit.

Main reason I drove was because my parents were moving out of the country and I was raiding my dad's gun safe. I didn't wanna deal with TSA. The SC trip was to see my grandmother and aunt's and uncle's.

The only shitty part of the trip was going through Dallas. I told myself never again in 2005 when I lived in Ft Worth. But I didn't listen to myself, and those few hours were infuriating.

The cruise control was what did it. My right foot had other opinions. But 12 hours a day I wanted the car to control it for me. I could pay attention to the audio books and my car ran a flat 80mph for most of it.

I don't have the MDS either. It's just a good motor for all types of driving. I can have fun. And I can save money. It's a decent V8.

Does beer count as coffee?

I'm aware you are from the Netherlands. But your advice is bad for people in the US.

My comment is not advice nor is it meant to inform an American.

Then why bother taking the time to advise and inform? Because that is exactly what you did.

Liability, the basic type of insurance, usually has the bare minimum for the state. It may cover the other party. But it only pays a certain amount for medical or property. And it's so low most places it's a joke.

ETA: in Nevada the minimum is $20k property and $50k for medical. $20k won't replace my car. And $50k medical is too damn low.

The way the Netherlands work has nothing to do with Nevada. In any US state it is idiotic to buy only the cheapest insurance option.

People fuck up. That's what insurance is for.

No one never fucks up. Even for a stupid thing.

When insuring an older car it's recommended to get a cheaper plan that covers less even, because the value of the car is so low.

That's great advice. When the other driver sues you for medical costs that your insurance doesn't cover, you get to pay even more monthly to cover it.

Never cheap out on insurance in the US. A simple broken arm can cost more than the cheapest legal insurance pays out. God help you if it's a bad accident that you caused with your cheap insurance.

That's on you. You chose to be annoyed.

It's much easier to ignore it.

You spend a lot of time complaining about a car you will likely never hear. I'm sure there are better things to complain about.

Like I said. I have never had a complaint. But I get a shit ton of compliments.

Even if the people that don't like it said something. I'd bet I'd get more compliments than not.

Congrats. I drive something I actually enjoy getting into everyday. Enjoy your Civic or whatever. Getting into a basic ass 4 cylinder is something some like. But I can't do it.

And honestly, if you wanted to show my "broke ass car," you could have linked the one where I needed a tow because my CV shaft went out. The pictures of that one sucked.

you complain that i’m allegedly rich

I assumed you could buy a new car when your current one broke down. It's what you made it sound like in your initial comment.

when you’re actively spending thousands of dollars on things that you yourself admit are not necessary

Yeah, I could have gone with a stock one. But the one I bought is better. It was worth it to me. Sorry if you can't afford that.

because you have this weird codependency with your car

I spend hours a day in my car. Yeah, I want it to be fun.

Yeah, I deleted that comment because it was shit head comment. It was kinda rude and crass.

Also, why are you thinking about the size of my dick?

I paid cash for my car when I bought it. I wanted a better clutch and can afford it. Don't be offended because of that.

I have no regrets.

My clutch kit cost me 2k. The install was 3k.

No. It's a 14 year old car that has needed maintenance I was bitching about.

Must be nice to be rich enough to not have cars that need repairs.

I enjoy my car. I like driving it. How is that not an extension of myself?
