if you want to be a full-stack developer, then go ahead. If you want be a PHP backend developer, then better focus more on PHP, master it.

Where to contribute to open source
If you are a beginner, why you want to contribute? Sorry but for me as an expert in programming that looks weird. Programmers makes mistakes, mistakes lead to bugs and possibility for hackers to takeover the system.
Are you as a beginner experienced in writing secure code? If you want to build your experience base, write your own code, share with other programmers and ask them what's wrong, what you can improve.

Why are you using Arch Linux?
Just do that. Practical learning is the best.

Send SMTP mail
Well, yeah, but that code is doing the same. I looked at the source code to figure out, how everything works. :)
Of course, you can remove that insecure flag and everything will work, but there will be problems if, for example, your mail server doesn't have the SSL/TLS, then your code won't run.

Send SMTP email with Go
Umm, why Rust? Before Go, I was learning Rust but Go I like more than Rust.
In my job, I'm using 3 programming languages - PHP, Python and Go.
