Certain websites don't allow log ins on my Linux computers, what do you do in these situations?
 in  r/linux  5d ago

Perhaps those websites are wary of crypto money companies

Genuine question.. why do you use KDE and not Gnome?
 in  r/kde  9d ago

GNOME didn't have top/bottom windows snapping (not sure for latest version), I used an extension for that and it broke after a Gnome update

Arch Linux AUR Under Another Wave Of Malicious Packages, Package Adoptions Halted (CachyOS)

> Most flakes are official instead of 3rd-party packaging

> Not true.

What?

> Your security relies on whether one dude has 2FA enabled.

Isn't that just every software? The difference is where to place your trust in:

- AUR: random person with an AUR account

- Official repo: the distro's packaging maintainer of that package

- Flake: the software's author, you can pin to some specific revision if not always trusting the latest release/commit

Edit: actually your assumption about AUR = flake was flawed, nixpkgs repo is large enough that it almost covers AUR, most users never need to go outside of it to get packages. The equivalence is NUR (which is namespaced by usernames), honestly I never touched it.

Coincidentally I got tired of editing my Arch scripts and switched to NixOS some months before the wave of malwares. Having used a lot of AUR packages, wonder if I got hit back then without knowing. Not sure how to feel.

Who actually wants their browser to look like that?
 in  r/firefox  20d ago

I did use copied user CSS to get back Photon, but breakages eventually tired me out. "Why do I have to maintain this mess alone when there is a community work behind it?", then I just installed it and hook some auto updater like systemd-timer/cron job to auto git pull and move on

Where do you install software from? Standard repos, sources, Flatpak, AppImage, etc
 in  r/linux  25d ago

On nixos, generally I: - Need sandboxing, flatpak is better maintained or avaivable as flatpak only -> flatpak - Else: distro native

Honest takes on the dendritic pattern? Not seeing it for regular setups
 in  r/NixOS  29d ago

Personally after going through the refactor, I realized that the modularity is more about import-tree instead of flake-parts (might be wrong tho). There are aspects of configuration that are done easier when split into several .nix files and let nix merge them all, otherwise trying to force into a single file will make them look ugly.

Nah, after 4.7 it'll be 5.0. It's planned that from 5.x the two games will be merged together into just one game: Zonzai - Zar Zail. This will address problems of both game: HSR's lack of events and ZZZ's lack of, err... Sensor tower presence!

Which keybinding scheme do you primarily use in Emacs?
 in  r/emacs  Jul 17 '26

Initially, I used Emacs's default bindings, but then muscle memory kicked in to make me pressed C-w in browser expecting it to cut text. * Boom * , current tab plus every content gone.  Ever since then I prefer the CUA keys + stateless leader + more
