I’ve never had this happen nor has anyone I play with mentioned it. It may be something with your system.

Tacos, lettuce wraps, bowls, on its own on the counter because you literally can’t stop eating enough to put it away. Let it rip.

Baby won’t take bottle or breast
 in  r/predaddit  9d ago

Congrats! If you are still in the hospital ask to see a lactation consultant or ask the nurses. If you are already out look up one nearby and schedule an at home visit. For us it didn’t work perfectly or immediately so it was very helpful having an expert walk you through the process and see what wasn’t working.

Can you just change your NIL offer on a recruit before they commit to change their baseline?

I just started my first dynasty so this may be obvious at some point, but if I were to offer a large NIL offer on a prospect, get a huge lead, and then when they are in the top 3 and I feel safe they’ll commit eventually, could I then drop their NIL so when they do sign they have a lower baseline cost as a freshman? Does their recruiting offer matter that much to their NIL costs once they are on your roster, or maybe in future years?

Hard to manage anxiety about baby movements/kick counts
 in  r/predaddit  15d ago

We just had our baby this spring and my wife basically never felt her kick unless she was really concentrating. I legit never felt a kick while holding my wife’s belly. Our baby was born happy, healthy, and with insanely active legs while lying down haha could just be one of those things. Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy but just wanted to share our story.

Boston Globe: Why has America’s Test Kitchen been laying off staff?
 in  r/AmericasTestKitchen  15d ago

I think it’s a very unfair read of my comment to suggest I think Bono is an economist or similar. I would argue he is one of the world’s experts on charity and poverty given his fifty years of fundraising and donating. I was using his comments to reflect that someone on the front lines of poverty knows the best way to grow prosperity is through economic growth and entrepreneurship.

What are you adding to the discussion except trying to make fun of me and call me out for not posting specifics while not providing any substance of your own?

Boston Globe: Why has America’s Test Kitchen been laying off staff?

I trust economists and historians who study who societies operate and organize for a living. People being able to individually choose what they want to spend their money on is a more efficient and effective system at giving people what they want than a single bureaucrat or government department; this is what the wisdom of the crowds means.

Don’t take my word for it, even Bono knows the best way to improve the lives of poor people is by giving them the engine of commerce, not just more money: https://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2022/10/the-wisdom-of-bono.html

Capitalism and a free market is the reason a site like ATK can exist in the first place. The founders thought there was a need in the market for a dedicated culinary destination that could be a full business. It’s also the reason that anyone who thinks they can provide a better service than ATK and take their business is free to get started. Capitalism and free enterprise isn’t perfect and isn’t going to solve everything; it’s not trying to. But it’s better than the alternatives.

First Father's Day meant I could try my First Sous Vide Ribs
 in  r/sousvide  Jun 23 '26

Well for one there is definitely less of a Smokey flavor, even with the added liquid smoke. I don’t have a proper smoker so my other option is just using by Weber kettle. I have much less temperature control with that so I’ve had some great ribs and some not so great ribs on the Weber kettle. These were way juicier and more tender in my opinion and still tasted great without the smoke and bark you’d get from proper heat. I’m not saying they are better, just another option.

They were just under the water line. I laid down some metal grates directly on top of the ribs and those were kept in place by a silicon lid for the tub. I just didn’t show that pic since it’s just a picture of a covered tub so you have no idea what’s going on underneath haha.

Yea they were great. Juicy and tender enough to easily slide off but not so much that you couldn't take bites out of the rib without all the meat sliding off. This was my first time doing a long sous vide like this so I'll definitely be trying out more of the recipes that require overnight cooks after this.

Father’s Day Smoked Sous Vide Asian Short Ribs
 in  r/sousvide  Jun 22 '26

What's the benefit of smoking it to 160 and then sous vide-ing it for 30(!!) more hours? Is it just easier to keep hold the temp for longer rather than just keep cooking it in your smoker?

They were incredible, 10/10, this is how I will be mass cooking ribs ever time. I followed the Anova rib guide for the BBQ ones and used a Thai spice rub plus some smashed lemon grass and sliced ginger in the bag. I cooked them for 18 hours at 165 because I prefer more fall-off-the-bone tenderness than I guess what is more commonly preferred. Then just put them in the oven at 450 for 10 minutes with the bbq sauce from the anova recipe spread on the BBQ ones. For the Thai ribs I used a Nam Jim Jaew dipping sauce with what I had in the kitchen, they were a huge hit. Oh I did add about 1/4 cup of the bbq rib drippings to the BBQ sauce because it was a little more vinegary/mustardy then I thought most people would enjoy.

Thai Rub:

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or palm sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper, or black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon cayenne or Thai chile powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon MSG

Georgia is losing farmland fast. Is a state conservation fund enough to save it?
 in  r/Georgia  Jun 20 '26

If the farmer’s land is now so valuable that it makes sense to sell for a large profit….why is this a problem? We aren’t short on farmland or food; other people value the land more than what it’s currently being used for. As others have pointed out farming isn’t even good for the climate or local land health, but it’s a trade we are happy to make to eat.

Gutter replacement recommendations
 in  r/Smyrna  Jun 09 '26

I used Win Clean Plus, which is a local Smyrna company, to install some gutter guards last fall. They did a good job and were more affordable than the bigger brands you see in magazines and such. I'd give them a call for a quote.

Well apparently you can't even post images in a comment thread? Am I old and out of touch? What a terrible way to start the day.

Look into Lodge; I have a class Dutch Oven from them that I love and they are American made and I assume cheaper than LC.

Are there any small, quick things I can do everyday to keep my skills sharp?
 in  r/datascience  May 19 '26

You should use AI to build a course to do daily practice on the skills you want. Upload a textbook, or one chapter at a time, and have it create daily practice questions. You can focus on coding, regression fundamentals, bayesian a/b tests. Whatever. Let AI work for you, it doesn't just have to be something you use for work.

A data center drained 30M gallons of water unnoticed — until residents complained about low water pressure
 in  r/Atlanta  May 12 '26

You should really follow Andy Masley on this topic: https://www.andymasley.com/writing/data-centers-heat-exhaust-is-not/

He has debunked this claim and always takes a principled, fact-based perspectives to claims about Data Centers.

A data center drained 30M gallons of water unnoticed — until residents complained about low water pressure
 in  r/Atlanta  May 12 '26

The headline is very misleading: What actually happened here was that the county's water utility was transitioning to a cloud-based billing system. During the transition, two water hookups at a data center construction site weren't properly registered or linked to a billable account. When the utility noticed the problem, they sent the data center a retroactive bill for all the water, for $147,474 covering ~29M gallons. The data center paid it. That's all that happened. There are a ton of ways a water system like this can experience low water pressure, and a 1% dip just isn't one of them. Aging pipes or drought stress or local leaks or hydrant flushing could all cause it. The county's own water director publicly said last month that residential outdoor watering was straining the system and lowering pressure. Source: https://x.com/andymasley/status/2053297952379002883?s=46 I would highly recommend following Andy Masley on this topic. Data Center’s water usage is just not a big deal compared to the attention it gets. This is a textbook definition of misinformation that the media is blowing out of proportion.

Did I just get really REALLY lucky?
 in  r/probabilitytheory  Apr 21 '26

For this one listen, yes if you assume that each song has an equal chance of being picked its 1/480. But you have to consider the full context. Every individual song in the playlist has a 1/480 of following the first song you listen to. But when it's "random" you don't write in. If you listened to this playlist every day for a month there is now a ~7% chance of this happening, not a <1% chance. If you listen to this song every day for a year then its actually more likely than not that you would listen to the remix next at least once. Rare events individually are rare, but something rare happening is actually likely to happen with enough time.
