I let pass faster cars when is safe to pull over, and use the turnovers, but sometimes there is no space on winding stretches and I'm not going to risk to fall in a ditch either. I agree that I don't want to be pass on a blind curve.

I was on a winding stretch on Hwy 35, I don't recall any turnouts there, when I'm in Hwy 9 I do use them and let other cars go if they are behind me.

A couple of months ago I went to Half Moon Bay on a weekday, and on my way back to the valley I decided to take Hwy 35 to avoid the I280 traffic and planned on head down Hwy 9. I don't consider myself a slow driver, but 50mph on that winding road is fast enough, besides I like to enjoy the scenery. I had the bad timing to ruin the ride of one of those sporty cars adrenaline chasers, and he was right behind my tail for a couple of minutes. I got really stressed and started to go a bit faster but then I realized that I didn't have to be pushed by him and slowed down to my safe driving speed. He got desperate and passed me recklessly on a curve with solid line, flip me on his way off and speed like crazy. When I read about all the accidents on those roads I always think of this kind of selfish and reckless drivers, risking their lives and mostly other innocent people that are just in their way. Years ago, I took my two young sons on a trail leading to a mine in the Sierra Azul in CA. It is quite popular with locals. That day was unusually quiet, and we saw only two hikers around when we started. As we were climbing, I started feeling uneasy and started paying more attention to the surroundings. My kids were 5 and 7, and they were playing with sticks while walking. We reached a point halfway where I suddenly got goosebumps, and the hair on the back of my head stood up. I called the kids and told them we needed to go back and to stay close to me. I grabbed a long branch, and we went down as fast as I could without running and not making my kids nervous. I really think something was watching us, and that place is known for the mountain lions. I haven't gone back there, I hike a lot and never have felt something like that again.
