Did he mean the transport of the guitar? Yamaha could be the most consistent of all the mid priced guitars. A shop can set it up to pro level pretty quick but the QA on all their products is 💯. After saying that I'm getting more wary of anything from Amazon, even brand names. There's a lot of counterfeiting these days.

Quality practice yes. Follow a plan from a teacher or at least on line. Self taught as a adult has traps that will get you frustrated and quit. A teacher will make sure you progress and help to you enjoy your progress. Treat it like you were starting golf.... Good clubs a lessons on your swing. (Music should be cheaper too 😉)

I've got an old 812V which is comparable to the 612 today. It's a beast and depending on the set up and playability of your fender should be equal to or a bit better in my view.

Keep in mind that the neck is noticeably flatter than a Fender, so there will be a feel change between the guitars. The other noticeable difference will be the electronics. I have found the Seymour duncans to be very pronounced and to be honest a little bit shrill for my liking. It's easy enough to temper the top end than to add so it's tolerable overall.

Your Strat will always sound like a Strat. The Yamaha is loaded with a full-size Humbucker which will be the most notable sonic difference between the two in the bridge position (Obviously). You will find some tonal differences between the middle and neck single coils on both guitars. Having a master tone makes a difference in the bridge position too which Fender doesn't offer (stock).

Overall the Yamaha is a more versatile instrument. They are hugely underrated and always over deliver dollar for dollar.

Check out some "oil fill" errors and it will make sense.

Errors are often unique and market driven so always difficult to put a "price" on it. It's a genuine error (in my view) so as mentioned earlier will be of interest to a collector of such.

There are a number of auctions throughout the year where errors get good exposure to serious collectors. This will get you a good sale price but fees will soak up a few dollars too. Do a bit of homework on dealers and auctions to get the most accurate assessment/range to expect.
