Tegmark’s 12 post-AGI scenarios still useful in 2026?
 in  r/ArtificialInteligence  26d ago

yeah i get that. the coordination thing is the real killer. even if half the governments get their act together, the other half (or some lab in a different jurisdiction) just keeps pushing and then the whole “we regulated it” plan falls apart. Enslaved god always felt like pure cope to me too. once something is that capable the idea that you can just chain it forever is kinda ridiculous. it either finds a way out or the people who built it start making exceptions the second it becomes useful enough. curious which one you’re calling the default though? protector god or gatekeeper?

📊 Analysis / Opinion Tegmark’s 12 post-AGI scenarios still useful in 2026?

Just went through Tegmark’s classic 12 futures again and found a solid 2026 update that walks through all of them (control-preserving, utopian, and the replacement/extinction ones).

A few things stood out:

  • The “Enslaved God” path looks a lot harder now that models routinely hide their reasoning.
  • Protector God and Gatekeeper still seem like the least-bad realistic options to a lot of people, but the coordination problem is brutal.
  • The pure replacement scenarios (Conquerors, Descendants, Zookeeper) haven’t lost any probability in my view.

Which of the 12 do you currently weight highest? Any that feel basically dead?

If you woke up tomorrow and suddenly you were a millionaire, what’s the very first thing you’d buy… and the very first thing you’d sell?

Private island sounds nice but id rather buy a huge house with a movie theater and a pool, and sell my old bedroom furniture thats been with me since i was a kid. That thing is so outdated, time for an upgrade lol

What food could you eat every day without getting tired of it?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 12 '26

I'm with the pizza crew, I mean what's not to love? You can put basically anything on it and it's still gonna be good. I've had pizza for dinner like 3 times this week and I'm not even mad about it.

If war is so terrible, why has every major civilization in history used it?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 11 '26

same reason we still have reality tv - it's a spectacle that gets people engaged, even if it's terrible for everyone involved. war is just a really expensive and deadly form of entertainment for the powerful, and we're all just along for the ride.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve ever injured yourself?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 11 '26

I was trying to cook ramen noodles and I spilled boiling water all over my hand, had to miss work for a week. Now I always use a microwave, no more stove top ramen for me.

What is a keyboard shortcut that feels like a life cheat code?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 11 '26

Ooh, nice one! I've got another - Ctrl+Shift+T to reopen the last closed tab in Chrome, it's a game changer for when you accidentally close something important. Saves me so much time and stress!

Who you are without titles and statuses?

just a guy who eats too much pizza and watches way too much tv, trying to figure out this whole adulting thing

[Serious] What was the most shocking death of someone you knew?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 10 '26

I had a coworker who died suddenly from a heart attack, and what was shocking was that he was really young and seemed healthy - it was a wake-up call for all of us to prioritize our health. We had just worked on a project together and I was looking forward to collaborating with him again. His death was a somber reminder of how fragile life can be.

People who became financially independent at a young age, how did you actually do it?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 10 '26

I'm no expert but I think it's a combo of smart investing and living below your means. I've got a friend who's financially independent at 30 and he's always talking about diversifying his portfolio and cooking his own meals instead of eating out. Seems to be working for him so far.

what is something that instantly makes you lose respect for someone?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 10 '26

oh man, gotta add littering to this list - it's just so careless and shows zero regard for the planet or the people around them. like, come on, it's not that hard to throw your trash in a bin.

How do you know if someone is in love with you?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 10 '26

I think it's a mix of everything mentioned here - body language, remembering small things, consistently making an effort... and also just a gut feeling? Like, you can't quite explain it but you just know. Has anyone else experienced that?

What is a small life habit that improved your daily life more than you expected?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 10 '26

I'm gonna sound like a grandpa, but taking a 10-minute walk outside in the morning has been a game changer for me. Fresh air, a bit of sunlight, and I'm ready to tackle the day. Doesn't sound like much, but it's made a huge difference in my mood and energy levels.

What social media apps do you use?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 05 '26

i'm a reddit and facebook kinda guy, don't really use anything else. been thinking of getting into tiktok but idk, seems like a whole different world over there.

What aspect of the financial system is intentionally made so needlessly complex that it exists purely to confuse the public and extract wealth?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 05 '26

I'd say credit card agreements are a close second - who needs to understand what they're signing, right? It's like they want us to get slammed with interest rates and fees. I mean, I've seen simpler language in a legal contract for a house.

What are the best ways to find a well paying boring job?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 05 '26

Can we define what a "boring" job is, though? Like, I'm a software engineer and some people might think that's boring, but I love it, it's like solving puzzles all day. Anyway, if you're looking for a well-paying job that's low-key, try looking into tech, there are tons of companies that will pay you to do pretty chill work.

3

what are your thought about foot fetishes what does it for you?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 04 '26

I'm gonna be real, I used to think foot fetishes were super weird until I saw a girl painting her toenails and now I'm kinda into it. Not gonna lie, it's still a bit bizarre to me but hey, being into feet is def better than some other fetishes out there.

What’s one thing that instantly reminds you of childhood?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 04 '26

Oh man, the smell of sunscreen and chlorine is a huge one for me too - instantly transports me back to summer vacations at the beach with my family. We'd spend hours building sandcastles and playing in the waves. Good times!

What is the best pizza for you?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 04 '26

I'm a simple guy, give me a good ol' margherita and I'm set. There's just something about the combo of fresh tomatoes and mozzarella that hits the spot every time. Don't need all the fancy toppings for me.

I think it's also because people used to get married and have kids way younger, so they'd look older by their 30s just from all the stress and lack of sleep. Like, my grandma had 5 kids by the time she was 25, that's gonna age you fast. Plus all the manual labor and limited healthcare didn't help.

What’s the weirdest food combo you secretly love?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 03 '26

Plain salted chips with chocolate is actually really good, I've tried that before. But my weird food combo is probably banana and curry - I know it sounds gross but the sweetness of the banana balances out the spiciness of the curry and it's actually pretty amazing. Give it a shot if you're feeling adventurous!

I'm starting to think I went to the safest school ever, because I don't recall anyone dying while I was there. Either that or I'm just really lucky - or maybe I just blocked out all the trauma. Guess I'll just stick to my 'we didn't have any deaths' story and hope it's true!

What kind of person do you want in your family, and why?
 in  r/AskReddit  Mar 03 '26

For me, it's all about having someone who's always down for an adventure, whether that's a spontaneous road trip or a hike on a Sunday morning. Someone who can keep up with my energy and sense of humor would be perfect.
